TEMPE - Sun Devil Athletics and the Sun Devil Club are proud to announce the creation of the Hannah Henry Memorial Scholarship, a lasting tribute established by Jo-Ann and Lowry Barfield to honor the life, legacy, and impact of former Sun Devil Triathlon student-athlete Hannah Henry.
Introduced through the Barfield’s generosity and commitment to preserving Hannah's memory, the scholarship will provide support for future Sun Devil Triathlon student-athletes while serving as a meaningful way for teammates, friends, family members, alumni, and supporters to celebrate Hannah's enduring legacy through future contributions.
Henry, a standout member of the Sun Devil Triathlon program from 2017-21, tragically passed away following a hit-and-run accident on February 8, 2026. During her time at Arizona State, she established herself as one of the most accomplished student-athletes in program history, capturing two individual national titles in 2017 and 2018 and helping lead the Sun Devils to four national team championships.
Henry graduated summa cum laude in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Entrepreneurship and a minor in Nutrition and Healthy Living. She later earned a Master of Global Management in 2023 with a concentration in Sustainability Solutions.
"We lost an incredible young person who was a tremendous student-athlete in our program. She had a huge impact immediately as a freshman winning her first national title, which is a very rare feat," said Sun Devil Triathlon Head Coach Cliff English. "She was top in her class in her time at ASU. However, it was that incredible vibrant, kind, thoughtful, and bright person that will forever leave a lasting impression on those close to her and even those that had the pleasure of even just meeting her for a moment in time. She will forever be remembered as a Sun Devil for life."
The Hannah Henry Memorial Scholarship will provide financial assistance to Sun Devil Triathlon student-athletes while serving as a lasting tribute to Hannah's impact on Sun Devil Athletics, the triathlon program, and the many lives she touched.
"We created this scholarship to provide a lasting legacy that reflects Hannah's passion, determination, and commitment to others," said Jo-Ann and Lowry Barfield. "Hannah was a flag bearer for women in sport. She exemplified all of the best characteristics someone in her position could exhibit. Through the support of future student-athletes, her memory will continue to inspire generations of Sun Devils. We would be delighted if others join with us in contributing to this scholarship in Hannah’s honor". The Barfield’s have also committed additional support to the scholarship and hope others who were touched by Hannah's life will consider contributing to the fund in her memory.
