IRVINE, Calif. – Starting Tuesday, 13 members of Sun Devil Swimming will compete at the Toyota National Championships at William Woollett Jr. Aquatic Center in Irvine, Calif.
The week of events plays host to the country’s fastest swimmers in LCM (long course meters), the standard Olympic race distance in international competition. Preliminary swims begin at 9 a.m. MST with finals starting at 6 p.m. MST.

Senior Ilya Kharun is appearing in four events - the 50 fly, 50 free and the 100 fly, 200 fly - after earning three wins (50 fly, 50 free, 100 fly) in the TYR Pro Series in Indianapolis last month. The two-time Olympic bronze medalist won the 2026 Mare Nostrum title in Europe on May 31 after completing his junior season with ASU. Kharun won five NCAA titles last March and was named Big 12 Swimmer of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Several alumni who are competing this week include Jonny Kulow, Adam Chaney, Andy Dobrzanski, Patrick Sammon, Grant House and Deniz Ertan.
Kulow was named the recipient of the Bob Bowlsby award by the Big 12 Conference and ended his Sun Devil career earning three NCAA relay titles and a Big 12 Championship by competing in the 50 free, 50 fly and the 100 free.
Chaney placed third in the 100m back with a season-best time, 53.65 and was fourth in the 50m back in 24.88 last month in Indianapolis. The Mason, Ohio, native helped the Sun Devils win four NCAA relay titles and set a personal best in the 100y back in March, with a third-place finish in 43.75.
Sammon earned a pair of wins at the TYR Pro Series with a title in the 100 free (47.92) and the 200 free (1:46.24). In August, Sammon will represent the United States at the Pan Pacific Championships, starting August 12-15 in Irvine, Calif.
Incoming freshman Ellie Chalupsky will compete in three events and is a four-time state champion from Bishop England High School in the 3A and 4A divisions. Jake Lloyd, an Ohio state champion in the 50 free, will appear in five events and join the Sun Devils as a freshman in August.
