Shlaine was a spark for the Sun Devils in their first season in the NCHC in 2024-25, helping Arizona State finish in second place in regular season standings. The Moskva, Russia draft pick totaled 38 points in only 31 games, after missing the first six games of the season with an injury. Shlaine racked up 17 goals and 21 assists, with his 1.23 points per game ranking 15th in the NCAA.
Shlaine was selected as a 2024-2025 CCM/AHCA Division I All-American and became only the second Sun Devil in program history to be selected as an All-American by the AHCA. In 2019, then-junior goaltender Joey Daccord (Seattle Kraken, NHL) was the first ASU player awarded the honors.Â
He was named to the NCHC Frozen Faceoff All-Tournament Team in March 2025, won the NCHC's Three Stars Award and was a finalist for both NCHC Player and Forward of the Year. Shlaine went on to sign with the Texas Stars in the American Hockey League (AHL) on March 27.
In 2025-26 with the Texas Stars, Shlaine registered 38 points (19G, 19A) in 67 regular season games. He finished the season leading the team in game-winning goals (5) while ranking second in goals (19) and tied for fourth in scoring (38). During the 2026 Calder Cup Playoffs, Shlaine skated in all five games while recording four points (3G, 1A). His three goals and two game-winning goals were both team highs.
Shlaine will aim to be the fifth Sun Devil to debut in the NHL, joining the likes of Joey Daccord (Ottawa Senators, 2019), Brinson Pasichnuk (San Jose Sharks, 2021) Josh Doan (Arizona Coyotes, 2023) and Ty Murchison (Philadelphia Flyers, 2025).Â
