PROVO, Utah – No. 11 Sun Devil Women’s Tennis edged out No. 27 BYU in a 4-2 win at the BYU Outdoor Tennis Courts Thursday afternoon.

Arizona State (18-4, 10-2 Big 12) handed BYU (18-6, 7-5 Big 12) its first home loss of the year and reached 10 conference wins in a season for the first time in program history. To add, the Sun Devils won their 18th match of the year, which is the most since 2016. 

The Sun Devils secured the doubles point with a win on court one by graduate Vivian Ovrootsky and sophomore Lily Taylor, 6-3. Then won on court three with a 6-4 result by freshman Zlata Bartanusz and Sarang Lim to take a 1-0 lead.

The Cougars evened the match at 1-1 with a retirement by junior Emilija Tverijonaite, who won the first set tiebreak, 7-6 (1), but was unable to continue. Junior Sara Svetac earned the second point for Arizona State in her return to the lineup with a 6-3, 6-2, straight-sets win to improve to 8-3 this spring.

Ovrootsky notched her 17th-straight win on court three with a 7-6 (5), 6-1 win to put the Sun Devils ahead 3-1. The win is her 29th of the season which is tied for fifth most all time in a season by an ASU player.


BYU won its second point of the match in straight sets on court four, but the Sun Devils were able to clinch the win on court six with Bartanusz winning in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. For Bartanusz, it’s her fourth-straight singles win and her fifth win of the year in three sets.

The Sun Devils will aim to stay atop the Big 12 facing No. 26 Utah on Saturday at 11 a.m. MST. Live stats will be available on StatBroadcast, and can be seen on ESPN+ as part of the Cracked Racquets Big 12 Courtcast coverage.
