Regular season wraps up at No. 10 Long Beach State on Friday

TEMPE – No. 12 Sun Devil Beach Volleyball heads back out to California for its final regular-season dual of the season, squaring off against No. 10 Long Beach State on Friday, April 17, at 4 p.m. MST at Long Beach City College.

Arizona State (17-12) is coming off a tough 1-3 weekend. The lone win came against No. 7 Loyola Marymount as the Sand Devils eked out a 3-2 win over the ranked opponent. 

In the final tune-up before the Big 12 Championship begins on April 23 in Tucson, Arizona, ASU will face a ranked opponent for the 22nd time this season. 

Sun Devil outlook
No. 12 Arizona State (17-12)

  • The Sand Devils went 1-3 over the weekend at the COE Challenge hosted by Cal Poly. ASU was swept by No. 2 UCLA and lost 4-1 against No. 9 Cal and No. 6 Cal Poly. Arizona State was able to take down No. 7 LMU, avenging a loss to the Lions earlier this season. 
  • ASU is 9-12 against ranked opponents this season, with the highest-ranked win coming against No. 5 TCU in the opening weekend. The Sun Devils started out 5-0 in ranked matchups.
  • Under Head Coach Kristen Glattfelder, Arizona State has 27 ranked wins and five over teams in the top 10. 
  • With a win over the No. 1 pair from LMU, redshirt senior Ava Kirunchyk improved her team-best win total to 21. She is now tied for the 11th-most wins in a single season in team history.
  • Kirunchyk and fellow redshirt senior Samaya Morin hold a 27-11 record together between their two seasons playing together. This season, they are 19-6, all on the top court.
  • Senior McKenna Flaherty and junior Kristin Gilmour clinched the dual against LMU for the Sun Devils, improving to 17-9 together, including a 16-5 mark on court four.
  • Arizona State is 2-3 in true road duals this season.

Opponent outlook
No. 10 Long Beach State (20-10)

  • The Beach is coming off a 2-0 weekend where they swept Concordia and beat CSUN 4-1. 
  • Against common opponents between ASU and LBSU, Long Beach is 4-7, while Arizona State is 4-6. 
  • Long Beach State is 10-2 at home this season.
  • LBSU was 27-12 in 2025, winning the Big West Tournament and falling in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Florida State. 
  • The Sand Devils are 0-2 against the Beach all-time, with the most recent meeting of the two teams coming in 2024 when LBSU took a close 3-2 victory.
