TEMPE – No. 14 Sun Devil Women’s Tennis bested No. 34 Texas Tech, 4-1, Friday night at Whiteman Tennis Center.

Arizona State (16-4, 8-2 Big 12) is now 5-4 against Texas Tech (14-8, 5-5 Big 12) all time. This is the Sun Devils’ second win against the Red Raiders this season with their other victory, also 4-1, coming at the Red and Blue Invite in Tucson this February.

Friday’s victory was ASU’s sixth-straight conference win, matching the longest win streak in conference play since March 22, 2024 - April 20, 2024.

Despite an opening 6-2 win from the ASU pair of junior Emilija Tverijonaite and sophomore Aiya Nupbay on court two, Texas Tech followed with two victories of their own to take the doubles point. The Sun Devils have six wins this season when they lose the doubles point.

Freshman Sarang Lim started the momentum for the Sun Devils in a 6-1, 6-3 victory from court six to take the first point, marking her second-straight set victory against Texas Tech this season. Then, sophomore Lily Taylor gave Arizona State the 2-1 lead with a 7-6, 6-3, victory of her own, making the Sun Devils 15-2 this season when they win a singles match from the No. 3 position.

Freshman Zlata Bartanusz extended the Sun Devil lead with her own straight-set win on court five, 6-2, 7-5, improving her singles record to 5-3 this spring. Tverijonaite clinched the match for Arizona State in a three-set victory, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. With that, she entered into a tie for 20th all time with Claire Schmoyer (1972–1975) with 73 career singles wins. Additionally, her win tied her for the fifth most all time in a season with 29 with Reka Cseresnyes (1995) and Kelcy McKenna (2011).

The Sun Devils hit the courts again on Sunday, April 5, to take on the Colorado Buffaloes at 12 p.m. MST at Whiteman Tennis Center. Sunday’s match is also a senior day celebration for Vivian Ovrootsky.
