TEMPE - Arizona State Men’s Basketball remains at Desert Financial Arena for their final home game of the season, taking on No. 14 Kansas.
The Sun Devils (15-14, 6-10) and the Jayhawks (21-8, 11-5) meet for the only time this season, with the contest taking place on Tuesday at 7 PM MST. The Maroon and Gold are looking for their fourth straight win at home and second-consecutive win in a matchup with a Top-15 opponent. The matchup
Arizona State and Kansas will face off for the lone time this season and for the 13th time overall, with the series tied at six dating back to 1961. ASU is 4-0 at home against KU. Under Bobby Hurley, the Sun Devils are 2-1 against the Jayhawks. The two programs completed a home-and-home agreement with matchups in 2017 and 2018, with Arizona State sweeping both contests. That included a 80-76 victory over No. 1 Kansas in the Jayhawks' last visit to Tempe in 2018. Lu Dort, Zylan Cheatham, and Rob Edwards had standout performances helping ASU defeat a 10-0 top-ranked Kansas squad.

Arizona State Men’s Basketball picked up a 73-60 victory over Utah on Saturday night at Desert Financial Arena. The Sun Devils (15-14, 6-10) defeated the Utes (10-19, 2-14) behind a tremendous defensive effort and a balanced offensive attack. Arizona State secured a season sweep of the Utes and their fifth straight win at home in the series. Head Coach Bobby Hurley has now won three consecutive home games despite facing a difficult Big 12 league slate.
The Maroon and Gold put together one of their cleanest performances in recent memory, avoiding fouls and turnovers. Behind the energy of the home crowd, the Sun Devils quickly erased an early 14-5 deficit, outscoring the Utes 68-46 over the final 34:45 of the game. Arizona State was dialed in from behind the arc, hitting 9-of-17 (52.9%) on 3 PT FGs. ASU held Utah to only 60 points and 39% shooting, moving to 9-0 when allowing 70 points or less and 8-0 this season when holding opponents to 40% or less from the field.
Quotables
“I have to compliment Allen Mukeba and Moe Odum. I've had some teams that if the guys have had their injuries, they might be out for six to eight weeks. A testament to the character of those two.”- Coach Hurley on the toughness of his players

Shutting down Brown (again)
In both matchups this season, the Sun Devils have managed to contain one of the nation's best scorers in Utah junior guard Terrance Brown. Brown finished with eight points on 4-of-12 (33%) shooting and was a -5 in 26 minutes of action. Earlier in the season, Arizona State held him to his worst performance of 2025-26, as he shot just 2-of-13 from the field and scored six points. Brown has been held to single-digit points only three times this season. Two have come against the Sun Devils.

Magic number
The Sun Devils held the Utes to only 60 points, moving them to 9-0 on the season when allowing 70 or less to an opponent. This is only the FIFTH TIME all season Utah has been held to 60 points or less. Three of the other teams to do it are in the Top-25 (Houston, Kansas, Iowa State). Taking it a step further, Utah has score 63 points or less seven times this season. Two of those instances have come against the Sun Devils, with the Utes scoring 63 points in the first matchup. Meanwhile, Arizona State has scored 70 or more points in 26 of 29 games this season.

Mo(r)e assists, less games
Moe Odum is putting together one of the most productive passing careers in recent memory. Among active NCAA players at the Division I level, Odum's 688 assists are the FOURTH most. He is 12 assists away from reaching 700 career assists. He is the only active NCAA Division I player to have been credited with 650+ assists and have played in 127 games or less.
Active NCAA Division I players with 500+ career assists
1. Braden Smith, Purdue - 1,011 in 139 games
2. Themus Fulks, UCF - 770 in 139 games
3. Donavan Dent, UCLA - 703 assists in 132 games
4. Moe Odum, Arizona State - 688 assists in 127 games
5. Boopie Miller, SMU - 627 assists in 125 games
Sun Devil fans will be tracking Braden Smith’s total, as he is attempting to catch Arizona State Head Coach Bobby Hurley as the all-time NCAA assists leader. Hurley finished with 1,076 in 140 games. Smith needs 65 assists to pass Hurley. If he were to play the maximum amount of games (40), Smith would need to average around 6.5 assists per game the remainder of the season to pass Hurley. Keep in mind, Smith has already nearly matched Hurley in career games played (139 vs 140) and is 65 assists shy.
Proven passer
Odum ranks near the top nationally in several significant career passing statistics, an indication of the successful career he has had. Here is a closer look at where he stands nationally in several important categories:
- 2.49 career assist/turnover ratio - 12th nationally
- 688 career assists - 4th
- 5.42 career assists/game - 11th
In a matchup with Colorado earlier in the year, Odum dished out a season-high 12 assists. It is the most assists by a Sun Devil since Jahii Carson had 12 against Stanford on Feb. 27, 2014. Odum is one of only eight Big 12 players to have 10 or more assists in more than one game this season. He delivered his second 20-point, 10-assist game of the season, scoring 21 points and dishing out 10 assists on the road against TCU.
Mo(e)mentum
Known nationally for his passing, Moe Odum is proving he can be one of the best all-around players in the Big 12 as well. Odum is one of only three players in the nation averaging 17.1+ points, 5.9+ assists, 3.0+ rebounds, and 1.4+ steals per game. (Boopie Miller, SMU; Jaylin Henderson, Portland St.). He has at least 10 points in 26 of 29 games this season and a team-best ten 20+-point performances. He has at least 5 assists in 21 of 29 games this season.

When Pigs fly
Senior guard Anthony "Pig" Johnson has emerged as one of the nation’s best sixth men, coming off the bench to provide energy and scoring while living up to his nickname. “Pig” has 10 or more points in 23 of 29 games, with 18 of those performances coming off the bench. He delivered yet again in the victory, accounting for 14 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Johnson arguably made most of his impact on defense, typically getting the assignment to guard Terrance Brown when in the game. Brown was held to just eight points on 4-of-12 shooting. It was Johnson's 12th game with mulitple steals, including five of his last six games. After finishing 2-for-2 at the stripe, Johnson is now 96-of-117 (82.1%) from the free throw line over the past 20 games. He has gone from 64.6% to 76.6% from the line on the season during that stretch.
Earlier in the season against UCLA, Johnson went a perfect 14-of-14 from the free throw line, one of only 14 NCAA Division I players to make 14 or more from the stripe without a miss in a single game this season. Johnson had a stretch earlier in the season in which he made 25 straight free throws, spanning the NAU, Santa Clara, and Oregon State games.
Johnson is third on the team, averaging 13.6 points per game. That has jumped to 17.0 points per game over his past three. He produces that highly while playing only 24.8 minutes a game. He is second in the team in steals (38) and third in assists (54). Johnson also leads the team with 167 free throw attempts (98th nationally; 6th in Big 12) and 128 free throws made (104th nationally; 6th in Big 12).

Getting to the line
As a team, Arizona State ranks 73rd nationally and 4th in the Big 12 averaging 23.0 free throw attempts per game. Their 17.3 free throws made per game are 53rd nationally and 3rd in the conference. In 33 games last season, ASU had only five instances in which they attempted 27 or more free throws. They have accomplished the feat eight times through 29 games this year. In 2024-25, the Sun Devils had only two games where they attempted 34 or more free throws (in 33 games). They have accomplished this MORE TIMES this season (4) through 29 games. Over the past 18 games, the Sun Devils are 300-of-387 (.775) from the free-throw line. In the prior 11 games, they were just 202-of-281 (.719).
Moe Odum has been the driving force behind the increased free-throw frequency. Odum is shooting 105-of-126 (83.3%) on the year, the eighth-highest mark in the Big 12.
Earlier in the season, Arizona State enjoyed historic success from the free-throw line against UCLA. The Sun Devils finished 25-of-26 (96.2%) from the stripe, including connecting on their first 25 attempts of the game. It is the second-best free-throw shooting performance in program history and the best in a game in which the Sun Devils attempted 20 or more free throws.

A Quantity of Quad 1's
Arizona State is one of only 30 teams nationally that has played 12 or more Quad 1 games and has at least three wins in those games. The exclusive group includes some of the sport's top title contenders.
Stop, Diop, and Roll
Freshman center Massamba Diop has established himself as one of the top newcomers in college basketball. He is fourth among freshman nationally, shooting 57.1% from the field (151-of-262). That figure is good for 33rd in the country regardless of class and is third in the Big 12.
Diop is second on the team in points (13.8) and first in rebounds (5.9), producing at that level in only 29.3 minutes per game. He also has a team-high 62 blocks and is fifth on the team with 20 steals, doing all this while committing only 57 personal fouls through 29 games.
He will block you
Massamba Diop is establishing himself as one of the premier defenders in the entire conference. His 43 blocks in Big 12 play are the second-most of any Big 12 player (Flory Bidunga, Kansas). This is a matchup of the league's two best shot blockers. Diop has 18 games with two or more blocks this season, including 10 of his last 11 games. Over the past 11 games, he has been credited with 30 blocks (2.7 blocks per game).
Diop now has 62 blocks in 29 games on the season. He ranks 20th nationally and 2nd in the Big 12 (behind Bidunga) in the category. He is third among all freshman nationally in blocked shots. He is two blocks shy of setting the new single-season program record for blocked shots by a freshman (current record held by Jayden Quaintance with 63 blocks in 2024-25).

Pushing the pace
A big factor in Arizona State’s success this season is their play in transition. The Sun Devils have finished with 17 or more fast-break points nine times this season. ASU ranks 58th nationally and 6th in the Big 12, averaging 13.4 fast break points per game.
Bench boost
A key to Arizona State’s season has been the success of its bench unit. ASU has outscored or tied their opponent off the bench in 21 of 29 games (14-7 record). Three of the seven losses when winning the battle were to Top-10 teams (No. 1 Arizona, 2x & No. 7 Houston). ASU’s bench won the battle over Utah, 27-14, and now holds a 697-532 (+165) advantage in points this season. The Sun Devil reserves have 27+ points in three straight games.
Telling the Troueth
Redshirt sophomore Sun Devil forward Santiago Trouet has fit in seamlessly since transferring in. He is currently second on the team in rebounds per game (5.7) and has had the most rebounds in a team-best 14 of the 27 games he has appeared in, including tonight. He is the first Sun Devil with five or more double-doubles since Romello White accomplished the feat in the 2019-20 season. The big man delivered with 12 points and ten rebounds, highlighted by a 4-for-4 night from the line. He has now made 17 of his last 19 free throws (89.4%) during a six-game span. Trouet finished with three blocks, which was a new season-high. It was the fourth time in his career he had 3 or more blocks in a game.
Trouet had two consecutive double-doubles earlier in the year, becoming the first Sun Devil since Kimani Lawrence in 2021 to accomplish the feat. Two Sun Devils finished tied for the team-lead with two double-doubles last year and Trouet has already more than doubled the feat with five.

He has won 114 games in Arizona, but also has won at least five games in California (16), Nevada (14), Oregon (six), Washington (five), and Utah (five). Three wins have taken place in Colorado, New York, and Hawai'i. Two wins have come in Nebraska, Kansas, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Single wins have taken place in Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Texas, and West Virginia. Thanks to the November Hawai'i trip, Hurley has now won in a total of 19 different states while at ASU.
ASU All Access: Jeff Ayres shares his favorite career memories
Jeff Pendergraph in the Hall of Fame
A cornerstone of the Sun Devil Men’s Basketball program from 2005 to 2009, Ayres left an indelible mark on ASU Basketball. He was part of the 2025 Sun Devil Athletics Hall of Fame class. Over 126 games, he averaged 12.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, and shot an impressive 58 percent from the field. His senior season was his finest, as he led the nation in field goal percentage at 66 percent, averaged 14.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, and earned First-Team All-Pac-10 honors. Notably, he delivered a 31-point, 11-rebound performance in a decisive win over Stanford in January 2009.
Ayres ranks sixth all-time in scoring (1,588 points), second in rebounds (942), and his 2008-09 field goal percentage is the school record. He is the only player in program history to lead the team in rebounding four consecutive seasons and helped guide ASU to a 25-win campaign and NCAA Tournament berth in his senior year.
Following his collegiate career, Ayres was selected in the 2009 NBA Draft and went on to play six seasons in the NBA, including a championship run with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014, before continuing his career overseas.
His consistency, leadership, and inside dominance made him a pillar during a pivotal era of transition for ASU basketball.
