FORT WORTH, Texas – It was a tough day for No. 11 Sun Devil Beach Volleyball as the team fell in two ranked duals, first to No. 19 South Carolina in a close 3-2 battle before being swept by the home team No. 7 TCU as part of the Big 12 Preview on Friday.

Arizona State (12-8) fell to 6-8 against ranked opponents this season. 

Redshirt senior Ava Kirunchyk moved into sole possession of 13th place in the ASU record book for career individual wins while a Sun Devil, now at 46. She and fellow redshirt senior Samaya Morin went 1-1 today.

The other pair to split its matches on the day was the No. 2 pair of senior Daniella Kensinger and junior Olivia McElroy. McElroy is now one win away from 50 career wins.

Game one: No. 19 South Carolina 3, No. 11 ASU 2 /// Final Box
South Carolina (14-4) took the 2-0 lead after the first wave with ASU falling in two sets on four and three sets on five. The top duo of Samaya Morin and Ava Kirunchyk got the Sun Devils on the board after sweeping their match (24-22, 21-12) to make it 2-1. Daniella Kensinger and Olivia McElroy also won their match in two (21-16, 21-15) to tie the dual at 2-2. It all came down to court three, which went to a third set. In a back-and-forth battle, the Gamecocks won 15-13 in the third set to take the dual.

Game two: No. 7 TCU 5, No. 11 ASU 0 /// Final Box
In the rematch from the first day of the season, the Horned Frogs (14-5) won every match on their home courts. Court three with Arden Besecker and Zoë Taylor went to three sets, but the Sun Devils were unable to come away with a point.

ASU will close out the Big 12 Preview on Saturday against No. 20 Arizona at 8 a.m. MST. There will be live scoring.
