TEMPE – No. 13 Sun Devil Women’s Tennis defeated the Arizona Wildcats 4-2, for the 11th-straight time at Whiteman Tennis Center Saturday afternoon, with all four points coming in singles matches to get the victory.
The Sun Devils improve to 46-13 over the Wildcats all-time and are 28-4 against it's in-state rival since 2000.
After dropping the doubles point, junior and No. 19-ranked Emilija Tverijonaite picked up her ninth singles win of the season with a 6-1, 6-2 win from court No. 1, to give the Sun Devils (11-4, 3-2 Big 12) their first point of the match.
Arizona (10-8, 2-3 Big 12) took a 2-1 lead after winning on court No. 6, but graduate Vivian Ovrootsky tied the match at two apiece with another straight-sets, 6-3, 6-1, victory, moving her to 12-0 this spring. The win is her 60th-career dual victory and pushes her career record to 60-18.
Junior Sara Svetac gave ASU a 3-2 lead by picking up her sixth singles victory of the season, winning 6-4, 6-4 on court No. 2. Sophomore Aiya Nupbay topped things off by clinching the winning point for the Sun Devils with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court No. 5 to secure the victory.
The Sun Devils hit the road and return to action on Thursday, March 19, when they take on the West Virginia Mountaineers at the WVU Tennis Courts at 2 p.m. MST.
