The seventh-ranked Sun Devil Men's Golf team teed it up in stroke play for the first time in 2026 at the Amer Ari Invitational on Wednesday (Feb. 5) and had a solid day with a 23-under 265. ASU is in third, nine shots back of fifth-ranked Auburn who shot 32-under 256, as it will try for its fourth Amer Ari title. It won the event in 2021, 2015 and 1995.
Hosted by Hawai’i-Hilo and Hawai’i-Manoa, the Amer Ari Invitational is 54 holes of stroke play competition played on Mauna Lani’s award-winning North Course. The teams will play 18 holes on Friday and Saturday.
ASU was led by Michael Mjaaseth, who shot 9-under 63 and is tied for third and two shots behind Pepperdine's Mahanth Chirravuri. Mjaaseth entered the week ranked 20th (WAGR) and 23rd (NCAA Scoreboard).

History Lesson
Five Sun Devils have won the individual title, as in addition to Ding (2024), David Puig (2021), Jesper Kennegard (2009), Chris Hanell (1996), and Todd Desmey (1994) also took home medalist honors.
Reminder of roster additions
Coach Matt Thurmond announced that Oscar Couilleau will join the squad in the fall of 2026, and waiting for him on that roster will be fall of 2025 signees Raul Gomez Montalva (Valencia, Spain) and Bryan Newman (Johannesburg, South Africa), who have signed and are ready to go this January in ASU's 11-tournament schedule.
