TEMPE -- Sun Devil Men’s Tennis (3-0) opened the season with its third straight win after 4-0 sweeps over Wichita State and New Mexico State at Whiteman Tennis Center on Wednesday.
In the morning match against the Shockers (0-1), ASU took the doubles point following a nail-biting tiebreak from the first position that eventually ended in a 7-6(2) contest. The guys made quick work in singles, as Mathis Bondaz, Niels Villard, and Jelani Sarr each claimed straight-set victories to close out the morning match.
When the team returned to face the Aggies (0-1) in the afternoon, the Sun Devils were dominant in doubles, winning 6-3 and 6-1 from the first and third positions. A walkover on court six put ASU up 2-0 early, and Bondaz and Ofek Shimanov were the pair that claimed singles points for ASU en route to its 4-0 win over NMSU.
