Taking down Texas
Behind a masterpiece from senior point guard Moe Odum, the Sun Devils defeated the Longhorns to advance to the semifinals of the Maui Invitational. It was ASU's first win over Texas since 1991 and the seventh win over a current SEC team in the Bobby Hurley era.  He willed his team to victory with clutch shot after clutch shot down the stretch. Despite Arizona State trailing by as many as ten points in the half, they did not quit, rallying for a resume-building non-conference win away from home.

Odum delivered one of the greatest individual performances in program history. His 36 points were not only a career high, they were the most by a Sun Devil since Alonzo Verge had 43 vs. Saint Mary's on Dec. 18, 2019. It was tied for the eighth-highest scoring output by Sun Devil away from home (road or neutral) ever. It was his second career 30-point game. 36 was the most points by a Sun Devil in a win since Tra Holder had 40 vs #15 Xavier on Nov. 24, 2017.

They put 100 points up on Washington State (3-4) to clinch a spot in the Maui Invitational Finals. It was an offensive explosion with many cylinders firing, as Head Coach Bobby Hurley's team shot 58.9% from the field.  ASU moved to 51-6 (.895) when it shoots 50 percent from the field under Bobby Hurley

Less than 24 hours after becoming the talk of the sport with a 36-point clinic, senior point guard Moe Odum had more in store. Getting to the line
Moe Odum has been the driving force behind the increased free throw frequency for the Sun Devils. At the Maui Invitational, he went 30-for-33 at the line, including a historic 16-for-18 effort against Texas. It was the most free throws made by a Sun Devil since James Harden also made 16 vs. BYU (Glendale, Ariz.) on Dec. 20, 2008. The 18 attempts are the most by a Sun Devil since Jahii Carson had 18 vs. Oregon State on Feb. 6, 2014. Odum is one of only seven players nationally with 16 or more free throws made in a single game this season. He is one of only 14 players nationally with 18 or more free throw attempts this season.

Odum not only got the the free throw line at a high rate, he also got opposing backcourts into foul trouble. He drew a total of 15 fouls over the three-game stretch in Maui; eight against Texas, five against Washington State, and two against USC.

It was a really good experience starting last Tuesday when we got out here and we played Hawai'i and just connecting with them, bonding with them, taking walks on the beach as a team, talking about life, talking about our goals as a team.
