Last time out
All-American Connor Williams earned his ninth top-10 finish at the 19th Olympia Fields Country Club’s Fighting Illini Invitational as Williams finished tied for ninth with a 1-under 209 (72-68-69) to lead the Sun Devils, who finished eighth in the 15-team field with an 8-over 848 (286-280-282).
Tie was good in Utah
The Sun Devils split the team title with New Mexico at Utah’s Wohali Tournament (Sept. 15-16), as it shot 14-under 838. Every Sun Devil shot under par, as Connor Williams tied for medalist honors, including 65s to open and close the tournament. Michael Mjaaseth shot 6-under 65 in the final round to notch his 12th top-10 finish. It marked the 28th team title for Matt Thurmond and Williams's first career top spot, who finished last year strong with great tournaments at the Big 12 Championship (second), fifth at the NCAA Bremerton Regional and tied for seventh at the NCAA Championships.
Trophy earned in Seattle
The Sun Devils lost two of the best four-year players in school history in All-Americans Preston Summerhays and 2024 U.S. Amateur champion Josele Ballester. That duo had ASU "in the hunt" for much since the fall of 2021, including solid shots at an NCAA title and always in the top ten of the rankings. The first tournament of the 2025-26 season was in Seattle, where Summerhays won the event in the fall of 2023 and Ballester led ASU to the team title last year. Senior All-American Michael Mjaaseth notched a birdie on the final hole to secure ASU's team win at the Sahalee Players Championship, as the Sun Devils outlasted preseason No. 3-ranked Texas by one stroke to take the trophy in the 12-team event. Mjaaseth tied for fourth with a 1-under 215 (69-72-74), his eleventh top-10 finish in his career.
