Football bounces back with 34-15 win over Texas State
The Sun Devils got back on track in front of a packed house at Mountain America Stadium on Saturday night.
TEMPE – Sun Devil Football bounced back with a comfortable 34-15 victory over Texas State under the bright lights of Mountain America Stadium during the program’s annual “Maroon Monsoon” on Saturday night.
Arizona State (2-1, 0-0 Big 12) piled up 433 yards of total offense to outmatch Texas State (2-1, 0-0 Sun Belt) to extend its home winning streak to eight consecutive victories, the longest since a nine-game stretch that started on Nov. 17, 2012 and lasted until Sept. 25, 2014.
After the teams took a 3-3 score into the second quarter, the Sun Devils reeled off 24 unanswered points, headlined by a highlight reel Jordyn Tyson 30-yard touchdown reception and a 1-yard touchdown rush by Sam Leavitt over a two-and-a-half minute stretch during the early stages of the second quarter. It was Tyson’s fourth touchdown this year and his third straight game finding the end zone.
Tyson went on to finish Saturday’s action with six receptions for 105 yards, marking the seventh career game the Arizona State’s All-American wideout went over the century mark. He also became the first Sun Devil receiver with a touchdown reception in the first three games of the season since N’Keal Harry in 2018.

With less than three minutes before the halftime break, Jesus Gomez added a 26-yard field goal to send ASU into the half with a 20-3 lead.
The Sun Devils returned to the field and took the aforementioned momentum and opened the second half with a 79-yard scoring drive that ended with a 29-yard Chamon Metayer touchdown catch from Leavitt and extended ASU’s advantage on the scoreboard to 27-3.
Redshirt junior Raleek Brown one-upped his performance from a week ago (110 rushing yards on 18 carries) by rushing for a career-high 144 yards on just 12 attempts. The career performance was highlighted by a career-long 75-yard rushing touchdown with 2:57 remaining in the third quarter.
Brown’s touchdown was ASU’s longest touchdown rush since Kalen Ballage capped off an eight-touchdown performance against Texas Tech on Sept. 10, 2016 with a 75-yard touchdown run of his own. It’s now the second consecutive game Brown has rushed for 100-or-more yards in a single game.

ASU tight end Chamon Metayer played a huge role in getting the offense in rhythm throughout the evening. Throughout the contest, Metayer set a new single-game career-high in receptions (6) and receiving yards (60). Metayer’s six catches on the evening tied Tyson for the most by a Sun Devil.

Entering Saturday night’s contest having piled up 454 and 604 yards, respectively, over the last two weeks, the ASU defense held Texas State to a season-low 303 yards. The Sun Devils brought down Bobcat quarterback Brad Jackson five times - marking the most sacks in a single game for ASU in 2025 - and 10 tackles for loss to keep the Bobcats off balance all night.
Jordan Crook led the way on defense with a career-best 12 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss against the Bobcats. Contributions came from all over the field as well with Myles ‘Ghost’ Rowser registering 10 tackles and scooped up his second career fumble recovery in the victory. Redshirt freshman Albert Smith III got on the stat sheet, too, with his first career sack.
Jesus Gomez went 2-for-2 on field goal attempts for the second straight contest. Gomez’ 47-yard goal during the first quarter marked his 50th career made field goal attempt.
The Sun Devils will look to continue to build momentum as Big 12 Conference play begins next week for the defending conference champions. ASU will travel to Waco, Texas for a battle with the Baylor Bears (2-1) at McLane Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 21st. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m. MST / 6:30 p.m. CT on FOX.
