The Sun Devil men's golf team extended its lead to nine strokes at the solid 14-team Cabo Collegiate -- a tournament it won last year -- with the second-best round of the day at the Twin Dolphin Golf Club.
The Sun Devils shot 5-under 279 in the second round and are 13-under 555 (276-279) and lead second-place Oklahoma State by nine strokes, as the Cowboys are at 4-under 564 (281-283). The final 18 holes are Tuesday.
Junior Michael Mjaaseth is tied for second is at 6-under 136 (68-68), while sophomore Fifa Laopakdee is tied for fourth at 5-under 137 (68-69).
Senior Preston Summerhays is at 4-under 138 (67-71) and in sixth. He is 6-under on the par-4 holes which leads the field.
The 14-team field includes seven top-25 teams, with Ole Miss (1), ASU (3), Oklahoma State (6), Vanderbilt (14), Arizona (17), Texas Tech (19) and Florida State (21) all competing.

Last year, the Sun Devil men's golf team won the 15-team Cabo Collegiate in convincing fashion. ASU won the tournament by nine strokes, and did it shooting 11-under 273 in the final round, as only two other teams were under par in the third round. Three Sun Devils finished in the top-10, led by Preston Summerhays who shot an 8-under 205 and finished third. Michael Mjaaseth tied for second in par-5 holes, shooting 7-under.

Designed by PGA champion Fred Couples, Twin Dolphin Club's 18-hole course is built into the mountainous Baja desert, combining rippling fairways and fast greens with dramatic arroyos, natural bunkers and phenomenal views of the Sea of Cortez. It's a challenging course as fun as Cabo itself.
