TEMPE – Two Sun Devil Hockey defensemen, Noah Beck and Ty Murchison, have signed professional contracts with teams in the National Hockey League following the conclusion of ASU's 2024-25 season.
Beck signed a one-year, entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks and Murchison signed a two-year, entry-level deal with the Philadelphia Flyers who owned his rights after the 2021 NHL Entry Draft in 2021 (5th round, 158 overall). Both contracts are set to begin at the start of the 2025-26 NHL season.
Beck played in all 37 games for the Sun Devils this season, earning All-NCHC Second Team honors with 33 points on five goals and 28 assists. The Richmond Hill, Ontario native was second in the conference among defensemen in assists and finished his final collegiate season with a goal and three assists in the NCHC Frozen Faceoff.
Murchison finished his career in the Phoenix Valley with 146 regular season games for ASU. In his final season with the Sun Devils, the alternate captain led the conference with a program-record 98 blocked shots on the season, winning the NCHC Defensive Defenseman of the Year award.
As both skaters await the 2025-26 season, they are expected to pick up time on ice with the respective AHL affiliates of their NHL teams who are still finishing the 2024-25 season. Beck will compete for the San Jose Barracuda and Murchison with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
They join Sun Devil Hockey alum Joey Daccord (Ottawa Senators), Brinson Pasichnuk (San Jose Sharks), and Josh Doan (Arizona Coyotes) as players to sign NHL contracts out of Arizona State University.
