The second-ranked Sun Devil men's golf team – the highest ranked Sun Devil team in the 26-sport department – heads to the Pauma Valley Invitational March 17-18 in the LMU hosted tournament at Pauma Valley Country Club that includes six top-ten teams.
ASU -- a warm squad after an impressive win at the 14-team Cabo Intercollegiate – will field a lineup that will include Fifa Laopakdee, Michael Mjaaseth, Prestono Summerhays, Josele Ballester and Connor Williams, while Peer Wernicke will play as an individual.
The par-71/7,311-yard course will host the 15-team field with 36 holes on Monday (March 17) followed by final 18 holes on Tuesday (March 18). Top ten teams in addition to ASU include Ole Miss (3), Texas (4), Oklahoma State (5), Oklahoma (6) and LSU (7).
Laopakdee – just a sophomore -- led the Sun Devils to five-stroke Cabo win, which marked the 25th Sun Devil team win under Matt Thurmond in his nine seasons. ASU went wire-to-wire over a field that included seven top-25 teams. Laopakdee shot 8-under 205 (68-69-68) and tied for the top spot but lost in a playoff, while junior Michael Mjaaseth tied for fifth is at 5-under 208 (68-68-72).
