TEMPE – Closing out the Cross Conference Invitational, No. 10 Arizona State Water Polo (11-3, 0-1 MPSF) overthrew the Cal State Fullerton Titans (5-6, 0-0) 12-3 and the Iona Gaels (4-6, 0-0) 21-9, on Sunday morning at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.

The first game of the day proved to be a defensive standout Sun Devil victory over CSUF as Millie Quin earned another hat-trick performance against the Titans, increasing her team-leading goal count to 48 on the season.

In the second match up of the day, Arizona State was able to notch another impressive victory over Iona. Ten goals came from two players, Karly Frangieh (6) and Alison Kokorowski (4), which accounted for just under half of all Sun Devil goals scored in the match.

Three Sun Devil goalkeepers saw action again today as Marie Rudasics, Keri Glad, and Ashley Byron split time between the two matches.

Game 1: No. 10 Arizona State 12, Cal State Fullerton 3
The Sun Devils were slow to gain momentum in a back-and-forth first quarter ending in a 3-2 lead. Millie Quin was first to strike home, notching a penalty goal in the fifth minute. Karly Frangieh and Ani Pamp followed suit, adding on two more goals in the first quarter of play.

Arizona State opened the quarter strong on the back of an early cross-shot goal from Itziar Almeda. Applying pressure to the Titans, the Sun Devils were able to tack on two quick goals courtesy of Layla Smith and Leila Meraz and extend the lead to four. After allowing one goal to the Titans, the Sun Devil defense held strong to not allow a score in the remaining second half. They went into quarter three with a score of 6-3.

The second half of the game swung in the Sun Devil's favor resulting in six total goals unanswered. Millie Quin led the way scoring the first goal just two minutes into the third quarter. Not soon after, an offensive onslaught began on the shoulders of Sophie Shorter-Robinson, Ani Pamp, Kinga Hnatyszyn and Millie Quin again. The one-sided third gave way to an 11-3 lead going into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter produced little waves with a lone goal coming from Leila Meraz. The combined defensive effort alongside a methodical offensive performance resulted in a swift 12-3 victory for the Sun Devils.

Game 2: No. 10 Arizona State 21, Iona State University 9
Millie Quin kept her hot streak going in the second match up as she scored the first goal to give the Maroon and Gold an early lead. She struck yet again soon after to double ASU's advantage. Itziar Almeda followed with another goal to increase Arizona State's lead to 3-0 in the early going. Two goals from Karly Frangieh and one from Alison Kokorowski gave the Sun Devils a commanding 6-0 lead. The lead was trimmed to 6-1 at the end of the first quarter when Iona was able to net one of their own.

ASU's dominance continued in the second quarter as Hannah McClaskey's pinpoint pass set up Millie Quin's second goal of the contest. Soon after, Itziar Almeda notched her second score of the game on a penalty shot and Molly Glad slotted one home to make it 9-1. The Sun Devils reached double figures when Layla Smith scored ASU's fourth straight goal. Karly Frangieh added two more to her total to increase the lead to 12-1. Iona tallied its second goal of the game to reach the halftime score of 12-2.

In contrast from the previous two periods, the third quarter saw both teams score an equal amount of goals. Itziar Almeda completed the hat trick with an assist from Millie Quin to make it 13-2, but the Gaels cut the lead to single digits with two goals in a row. Two of the next three goals came from Arizona State, as Ani Pamp and Alison Kokorowski gave the Sun Devils a 15-5 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

Iona scored two goals to start the fourth quarter, but Kat Featherstone and Karly Frangieh answered back for ASU to make it 17-7. Molly Glad increased the lead to eleven with her second tally of the game, and Karly Frangieh added her sixth to make it 19-7. The Sun Devils reached the 20-goal mark when Alison Kokorowski completed her hat trick. Two of the game's final three goals were scored by the Gaels, but Alison Kokorowski's fourth goal gave ASU an impressive total of 21. The final score was 21-9 in favor of Arizona State.
