PHOENIX – Sun Devil Wrestling's (4-8, 1-5) hot start wasn't enough to keep up with No. 9 Cornell, falling 25-12 in Saturday's matchup at the Arizona Veteran's Memorial Coliseum.
Richard Figueroa, Julian Chlebove, Emilio Ysaguirre and Cohlton Schultz all provided the scoring as each tallied victories. Chlebove picked up a huge win by downing No. 28 Tyler Ferrera, 5-2, and was propelled by a go-ahead takedown in the final seconds of the match to earn his highest-ranked win of the season.
Schultz closed the match by defeating No. 33 Ashton Davis, 6-0, in a controlling manner. Ysaguirre was in complete control off the jump and defeated No. 30 Josh Saunders, 9-2.
Richard Figueroa flexed his championship muscle and got Arizona State on the right track to kick off the dual with a decision victory against Marcello Milani, 10-7. It marked the fourth time this year the Sun Devils have won the first three bouts in a dual and the first time they've done so since defeating Cal Baptist on Jan. 12. Outside of the early Sun Devil surge, Cornell strung together six consecutive wins to seal ASU's fate.
The Sun Devils are back in action Sunday against No. 20 Oklahoma at Mullett Arena at 1 p.m. MST for the final home dual of the 2024-25 season.
