Sun Devil Outlook
No. 10 Arizona State (6-0)
  • The perfect start continued over the weekend as the Sand Devils hosted the Sun Devil Invitational, sweeping both Colorado Mesa and Texas A&M-Kingsville. The wins extended the best start in program history and tied for the longest winning streak the team has seen.
  • The Sand Devils have a tough weekend ahead, facing four ranked teams. In the all-time series, Arizona State trails against all four.
  • This weekend is the first of two big conference events held in Tempe this season. ASU hosts the Pac-12 South Tournament this weekend and will host the Pac-12 Championships at the end of April.
  • Sophomores Adriana Nieves Papaleo and Kendall Whitmarsh are 6-0 on the year. They have paired together in all but one dual, but even when not paired together they came away victorious.
  • Two other pairs have gone 5-1 together this year. Playing on court two, sophomore Arden Besecker and freshman Ava Williamson are 5-1, and then senior Taryn Ames and graduate Lexi Sweeney have been 5-1 in the No. 3 spot.
  • The Sand Devils are ranked No. 10 in the AVCA Coaches Poll, tied for the highest rank ASU has received in program history. It ties a No. 10 ranking in 2017.

Opponent Outlook
No. 1 UCLA (8-3)
  • The Bruins have had a challenging schedule to begin the season, every dual being against a ranked team and all but two being top-10 teams.
  • Last weekend, UCLA hosted the Battle for LA and won all four matchups.
  • The Sun Devils have just one win against the Bruins all-time and it came back in 2015.
  • ASU sophomore Kendall Whitmarsh's older sister Jaden is a graduate on the Bruins.
No. 2 Stanford (7-1)
  • The Cardinal had a big start to the season, going 4-1 against five top-10 teams to start the season. Stanford beat both USC and UCLA that weekend.
  • Over the weekend, Stanford hosted the Battle of the Bay, going 3-0.
  • The last win over the Cardinal for the Sun Devils came in 2019 in the Pac-12 Championships.
No. 7 Cal (6-2)
  • The Bears started the season 4-0. Last weekend, they played in the Battle for LA at UCLA, falling against ranked teams UCLA and Cal Poly. Cal did pick up wins over Concordia University Irvine and LMU.
  • Arizona State beat Cal back in 2021 but has lost the last four-straight matchups.
No. 19 Arizona (7-0)
  • The Wildcats are perfect to start the season. They hosted the Cactus Classic to begin the year and last weekend played in the Malibu Invite, winning three there.
  • Last season, ASU swept the regular season series against Arizona for the first time since 2014. However, the Wildcats won the matchup at the Pac-12 Championships.
