Tempe, Ariz. – For the first time this season No. 6/18 Sun Devil Swim & Dive is headed east for a dual meet against No. 5/12 North Carolina State for two days of competition set for this Friday and Saturday. The meet can be seen on ACC Network Extra as part of ESPN+, which requires a subscription.
Friday's competition starts at 2:30 p.m. AZT/5:30 p.m. EST and Saturday's meet commences at 7 a.m. AZT (10 a.m. EST).

LAST TIME OUT:
On October 12, the Sun Devils hosted the first all-Arizona quad-meet hosting Arizona, Northern Arizona and Grand Canyon at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. The Sun Devils managed two wins on the men's side beating GCU and Arizona, and the ASU Women beat out NAU, GCU and Arizona.
Alexa Reyna won both of her individual events in the 600 free (5:43.08) and the 300 free (2:46.40) while being part of the 3rd place 200 free relay team. Miriam Sheehan was part of two winning relay teams; the 400 medley relay and the 200 free. She then won the 50 back (24.29) and placed 2nd in the 50 fly (24.18).
Freshman Julia Ullmann was part of the winning 400 medley relay team, swimming a 52.68 breaststroke leg, then following it up with a win in the 50 fly (24.18). She also placed 2nd in the 150 free finishing in 1:19.45.
On the men's side Ilya Kharun continued his stellar start to the season by being part of the winning 400 medley relay, swimming a 45.33 backstroke leg. He would later win the 150 fly by 3.1 seconds in 1:12.29 and throw down a blistering fast 50 fly, in 19.94. Lastly, he'd win the 100 IM in 46.91.
Patrick Sammon won both freestyle events. Winning the 150 free in 1:07.24 and the 300 free in 2:30.12. The senior also was part of the 200 free relay, swimming a 19.54 opening leg.

OPPONENT OUTLOOK:
N.C. State is competing for the first time this season after the women's team finished 9th and the men's team finished 5th at NCAA Championships last season. The Wolfpack has six members as part of the 2024-25 USA National Team, announced on Sept. 10.
The Wolfpack men are the reigning ACC Champions after going 6-1 in dual meets in 2023-24, while the women placed 3rd at ACC Championships and went 4-3 in duals last season.
In 2023, the Sun Devil men defeated the Wolfpack 186.5-113.5 in a dual meet that commenced in Tempe, while the women fell to the Wolfpack 130.5-169.5. It marks the first of two trips to North Carolina for the Sun Devils, who will travel to Greensboro for the NC State GAC Invite set to take place on Nov. 21-23.
BIG AWARD WINNERS:
In the first set of Big 12 weekly awards announced on Oct. 9. The Sun Devils swept the swimming portion of the honor. Ilya Kharun won his first conference honor, winning all four of the races he appeared in.
Caroline Bentz in her ASU debut collected 35 points with wins in the 200 back, the 200 medley relay (21.64; 1:37.05) and the 400 free relay (49.22; 3:18.87), and coming in second in the 100 back (52.68).
Tommy Palmer earned men's newcomer of the week placing in the top-3 in all four of his races. The transfer helped win the 400 free relay (2:51.68) and had a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay (18.91;1:25.35). In his individual events, he achieved second place in the 50 free (19.59) and third in the 100 fly (46.57) behind only teammates Kharun, Jonny Kulow, and Filip Senc-Samardzic.
In the second week of Big 12 weekly awards, Fiji Olympian and freshman Tolu Young won Big 12 men's newcomer of the week, marking the second straight week a Sun Devil has won the award for finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in three of his events. The Paris Olympian swam the fastest time in the 200 free relay (1:16.79; 19.64 split) before finishing runner-up in the 50 free (19.89) and third in the 50 fly (21.48).
IN THE RANKINGS
The Sun Devils are ranked in both the men and women's CSCAA October polls announced on Oct. 21. The men check in at No. 6 in the country, and the women are ranked No. 18, up three spots from the preseason poll released in September. Both are the only teams to represent the Big 12 going into the new season.
N.C. State is ranked No. 5 in the nation according to CSCAA in the October poll and their women's team is ranked No. 18 in the country.
RETURNING OLYMPIANS:
The Sun Devils return five total Olympians who have competed in the Olympics. Deniz Ertan and Miriam Sheehan both competed in Tokyo in 2021. Tiago Behar, Tolu Young and Ilya Kharun all swam for their respective countries in 2024 in Paris.
Kharun, representing Canada garnered two bronze medals in Paris, coming in the 200m and the 100m fly after coming off a freshman year where he claimed the 200y fly individual title at NCAA Championships. Similar to his teammate Matheson, he'll also be competing in Budapest at the short-course world championships. Kharun currently holds the school record in the 100 fly (44.33) and 200 fly (1:37.93).
