TEMPE– Arizona State lacrosse (8-9, 3-4) ended their 2024 regular season on Saturday with a bang in the 21-11 victory over UC Davis (9-7, 2-5) at home on Senior Day. The Sun Devils dominated on both sides of the ball and took control of the game in the opening frame thanks to a six-goal first quarter. With the win, ASU secured a spot in the Pac-12 Tournament that will take place May 1-4 in Los Angeles, California.
Senior attacker Mina Scott, who had a career-high six goals in the win, was one of four Sun Devils to tally a hat trick, including: sophomore attackers Lydia Oldknow and Teagan Ng and junior attacker Anna Thornton. The trio also combined for six assists out of the 10 total assists, which was a single-game high this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Sun Devils scored three goals in the first six minutes to take a commanding lead that they never relinquished. Mina Scott put ASU ahead on a point-blank shot in front of the net just three minutes into the game. ASU extended their lead to two goals at 10:40 after freshman midfielder Anna Viglione rifled a shot past the UC Davis goalkeeper. Less than two minutes later, Thornton put the Sun Devils ahead 3-0. After UC Davis cut the deficit to two, Oldknow and Scott scored 20 seconds apart to give ASU a 5-1 lead. Scott completed her hat trick at 2:01 from a quick shot near the net after receiving a pass from Thornton.
Two minutes into the second quarter, Scott registered her fourth goal of the game to extend the Sun Devil's lead to 7-1. Oldknow scored her second goal of the day at 6:59 to push ASU's lead to seven goals. With 4:27 remaining in the half, freshman attacker Emma Heenan snuck a shot past the Aggies netminder from the right side of the goal to give the Sun Devils a 9-1 lead. Oldknow tallied the Sun Devil's second hat trick of the game, scoring with 2:13 left in the second period to make it 10-2.
The Aggies tallied two goals early in the second half, but the Sun Devils regained their eight-goal advantage each time after Ng scored two goals at 13:23 and 12:03. UC Davis responded with three-consecutive goals to cut the deficit to 12-7. Senior defender Gigi Gaspar halted the Aggies' run, scoring at 4:28 of the third quarter. Less than a minute later, Scott scored her fifth goal of the day to help the Sun Devils carry a 14-8 lead into the fourth quarter.
Both teams traded early goals in the final period, as Thornton scored her second goal of the day at 12:36 to push ASU's advantage to 15-9. Ng found the back of the net two minutes later to give the Sun Devils their third hat trick performance of the game. And it was not the last. Thornton fired a shot past the Aggies goalie with 9:10 remaining, becoming the fourth Sun Devil to have a hat trick. Junior midfielder Maddie Riley and senior attacker Rosie Davis scored 30 seconds apart to push ASU's lead to 19-10. Scott tallied her sixth goal of the day at 3:33. Graduate defender Zoe Mazur scored the game's final goal with only 12 seconds remaining.

NOTABLES:
- ASU's 21 goals on Saturday tied the season high for most goals scored this year. The Sun Devils put 21 on the board in their season-opening win against Xavier on February 9, 2024.
- The team's 49 shots are also a season high. The previous high, 48, came against Xavier.
- Mina Scott's eight points (6G-2A) are the most by a Sun Devil in a game this season. Prior to today, Thornton and Oldknow each had one seven-point game.
- With three goals today, Lydia Oldknow has scored in every game for the Sun Devils this season. It was also the sophomore's ninth hat trick of the year, which leads the team.
- Mina Scott's six scores on Saturday surpassed her career mark for goals in one game. Her previous high was a five-goal performance in ASU's victory over Cal on April 6, 2024. Her eight points is also a career high.
- Emma Heenan's second-quarter goal extended her scoring streak to three games. Four of her six goals scored this season have come in that span.
- Gigi Gaspar scored her fourth goal of the season in the third quarter. All four of her scores have come in the last five games.
