ATHENS, Ga.- On Day 1 of the NCAA Women's Swimming Championships, the Sun Devils placed 12th in the 800 free relay as Ieva Maluka, Lindsay Looney, Erin Milligan and Charli Brown teamed up to go 6:57.06– good for a school record.
The time of the relay took down a school record previously held by Emma Nordin, Erica Laning, Looney and Cierra Runge set back in February 2020 at the Pac-12 Championships. It also marks the fifth time in school history that the Sun Devils have gone sub-7:00.00 in the event.
The first of four days at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Georgia, featured just two events – the 200 medley relay and 800 free relay. The Sun Devils competed in just the latter event and collected 10 points.
After officially kicking off their first day of the NCAA Championships, the Sun Devils look to attain their best finish in the Bob Bowman era while in Georgia this week.
