TEMPE - Sun Devil Men's Basketball embarks on their final road trip of the season as they head to Los Angeles to take on USC and UCLA.
First up, Arizona State (14-15, 8-10) will take on USC (12-17, 6-12) at the Galen Center on Thursday, Mar. 7 at 9 PM MST. This is a rematch of a January contest that saw Arizona State secure a 82-67 win in front of a crowd of 13,746 fans at Desert Financial Arena. Head Coach Bobby Hurley's team has two conference games left as the Pac-12 standings remain crowded heading into the final weekend. Pending the results of the weekend, scenarios could see the Sun Devils seeded anywhere from 5-11 at next week's Pac-12 Conference Tournament in Las Vegas (March 13-16).
HOW TO FOLLOW
The broadcast of Sun Devil Men's Basketball's game on Thursday will air on FS1 when they travel to USC, scheduled for a 9 PM MST tip-off with Wayne Randazzo (play-by-play) and Jim Jackson (analyst) on the call. Make sure to listen to Tim Healey and Kyle Dodd on ESPN 620 AM (KTAR). The action can also be tracked via live stats available here.
FIRST MEETING WITH THE TROJANS
Sun Devil Men's Basketball was able to pull away from USC in the second half, securing a 82-67 victory at Desert Financial Arena earlier in the year.
The Sun Devils overcame an early eight point deficit to control a majority of the game, putting together several impressive runs. ASU was able to extend the lead to as much as 20 points in the second half, with the pressure defense proving to be too much for the Trojans to handle. ASU outscored USC 43-36 in the first and 39-31 in the second to complete a 82-67 win.
Four Sun Devils reached double-figures with Jose Perez scoring 20 points while shooting 50% (8-of-16) from the field. Frankie Collins also had 17 on the night, but it was his six steals that made the biggest difference. Jamiya Neal finished with 17 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Bryant Selebangue's energy was essential, as he contributed a season-high 13 rebounds, including nine offensive boards, the most by a Sun Devil since Jeff Pendergraph had nine vs. Washington on Jan. 31, 2009. Alonzo Gaffney added 11 points, highlighted by a pair of crucial threes down the stretch. Desert Financial Arena provided a fantastic atmosphere with a season-high 13,746 in attendance. It was also the second-largest student crowd in program history, with 4,325 students showing up and having an impact.
THE HURLEY ERA
Bobby Hurley secured his 150th victory as the head coach of Sun Devil Men's Basketball over Utah on Jan. 4. The win makes him just the third coach in program history to win 150 games at ASU.

Collins broke Lafayette Lever's 42-year-old previous record of 76 steals set in 1982. He continues to add to his record, currently sitting at 78 total steals.

I'LL TAKE THAT
Through 29 games of the 2023-24 season, Frankie Collins has emerged as one of the best perimeter defenders in the nation. Collins has 78 steals, putting him fifth in the country in the category. He is currently sixth in the nation in steals per game, averaging 2.7 per contest. He matched a program-record with eight steals in the victory over UMass Lowell and has 15 3+-steal performance already this season. His 78 steals are 20 MORE than any other player in the Pac-12 (Kobe Johnson, USC - 58) and he has four games with 6+ steals.
FRANKIE DOES IT ALL
Guard Frankie Collins has emerged as one of the top all-around players in the Pac-12 Conference. He is currently one of only two players in the nation (Shahada Wells, McNeese State) averaging at least 13.8 points (1st on team), 4.6 rebounds (2nd on team), 3.3 assists (1st on team), and 2.7 steals (1st on team). Collins is stuffing the stat sheet in a historic manner while playing only 32.1 minutes per game (20th in the conference). Collins has been extremely consistent, reaching double figures scoring in 26 of the 29 games this season.
COMFORTABLE WHEN IT'S CLOSE
After going 12-5 in games decided by six points or less (two possessions) last year, the Sun Devils are 5-3 in such games so far this season. Arizona State is 40-20 (.666) in close games over the past five seasons. The 40 wins are the most in the nation during that span. ASU is 5-2 in games decided by three points or fewer this season. To take it a step further, ASU is 6-3 over its last nine tilts when the game is decided by a two-point deficit or less. Overall, ASU is 25-17 in two point or less games under Bobby Hurley.
DON'T COUNT US OUT
Arizona State has come back to win a game when trailing at halftime 44 times during the Bobby Hurley era and five times this season, three of which have come on the road. They trailed Utah, California, and Stanford at the break in games away from home before mounting a successful comeback. Since 2015-16, the Sun Devils are Top-15 in the nation and lead the Pac-12 with their 44 halftime comeback victories.

(-9) UMass Lowell 31, ASU 22/Nov. 16, 2023/ASU 71, UMass Lowell 69
ASU trailed by as many as 16 points in the second half of the Cal game, making this the second straight season in which they overcame a deficit of at least 16 to win a conference game. The Sun Devils won at Oregon St on 1/14/23 after trailing by as many as 16 in the first half.
The Sun Devils nearly pulled off a 25-point comeback against Washington earlier in the season, which would have represented the largest deficit overcome in college basketball this season. They outscored the Huskies 51-30 in the second half, including a three separate runs of 8-0, 7-0, and 6-0.
WHAT'S TRENDING
- Adam Miller has scored at least 12 points in each of his last seven games, averaging 14.9 points during that span. He is shooting an efficient 37-for-65 (56.9%) from the field and 13-for-28 (46.4%) from three. He is also 17-for-20 (85%) from the free throw line.

WINNING THE TURNOVER BATTLE
Arizona State has done an excellent job of taking care of the basketball during the 2023-24 season. The Sun Devils have won the turnover battle in 24 of their 29 games this season, including in each of the past two games against Top-25 competition. The Maroon & Gold are the best team in the Pac-12 and rank 25th in the nation when it comes to turnover margin, sitting at +3.2 on the year. ASU forces the second most turnovers/game (13.6) while committing the fewest (10.4) of any team in the Pac-12.
ZO SAYS NO
Sun Devil forward Alonzo Gaffney is one of the most versatile defenders in the Pac-12 and is a key to the Arizona State defense. He is the ONLY PLAYER in the conference with at least 34 blocks (34) and 31 steals (31) this season. Gaffney has ten games in which he has registered one block and one steal. He ranks 5th in the league in blocks and is 21st in steals.
ASU RECORD BY STARTING LINEUP
Due injuries to Shawn Phillips Jr., Zane Meeks, and Brycen Long early in the season, the Sun Devils have been shorthanded the entirety of the year. With Adam Miller gaining eligibility midway through the campaign, fluctuation continues with Arizona State's roster. This has resulted in Coach Hurley using 11 different starting lineup combinations in 29 games. Frankie Collins is the only Sun Devil to have started every game, with nine different players earning a start so far this year. ASU has at least one win with seven different lineup combinations. The Maroon & Gold started a different lineup against Arizona for the seventh straight game.
