PALOS VERDES, Calif. - Sun Devil Women's Golf began the Therese Hession Regional Challenge a day early, completing two rounds on Saturday.

The tournament, which was originally scheduled for three stroke-play rounds from Feb. 4-6, was moved up a day due to impending inclement weather conditions. The format was also switched from traditional stroke-play to a bracket-style Match Play setup. Arizona State faced off with Texas in the morning session before wrapping up with Ohio State in the afternoon.

Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye's team gained valuable experience competing in their first Match Play event of the season. The NCAA Championship is decided via Match Play, giving the Sun Devils a glimpse of what would come should they make an end-of-the-season run. Not only was the format change beneficial, the competition present at the event was also fierce. ASU took on a Top-10 Texas team in the first round and finished up with tournament host Ohio State, who is also ranked in the Top-50.

There were several bright spots throughout the day for the Maroon & Gold, who collected three of a possible ten points in the two matches (two wins, two ties). Paula Schulz-Hanssen took down Angela Heo from Texas, only needing 14 holes to complete the 5&4 victory. Beth Coulter went toe-to-toe in a match with the nation's No. 23 golfer Farah O'Keefe before falling 2&1. Later in the day, Grace Summerhays knocked off Ohio State's top player Caley McGinty in the battle of No. 1's in the lineup. Both Beth Coulter and Patience Rhodes finished their matches tied and earned half a point because of the split.
