FEDERAL WAY, Wash.- A podium finish in the 800 free relay started off the postseason for the Sun Devils on Day 1 of the Women's Swim and M/W Dive Pac-12 Championships at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.
Ieva Maluka-Lindsay Looney-Charli Brown-Molly Batchelor went 6:58.41 in the 800 free relay to place third overall in the final event of the first day of competition. This is the third year in a row the Sun Devil women have opened with a third-place finish in the event with this year's group finishing four seconds faster than last year's relay (7:02.70).
The Sun Devil women kicked off the swimming events as Brown, Zoe Summar, Maluka and Erin Milligan took fourth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:37.50, which is the fourth fastest time in school history.
The efforts from both relays put the Sun Devils in second after the opening day.
TEAM STANDINGS AFTER DAY 1
All four men's divers for the Sun Devils competed in the 1-meter prelims. Senior Zachory Lundgren was the top finisher for the Sun Devils, taking 11th with a score of 273.50 through six dives.
Though the top eight advanced to the final round, here's where the other three divers rounded out the preliminaries:
14. Thomas Wesche, 257.55
15. Lane Stallworth, 252.45
18. Caleb Liban, 211.20
The men's 1-meter was the only diving competition on day one.
Up next for diving will be the women's 1-meter and the men's 3-meter with preliminaries for the men's 3-meter set to begin at 12 p.m. AZT.
THURSDAY SCHEDULE
Thursday will be the first full day of swimming with preliminaries for three individual events set to begin at 11:30 a.m. MST.
500 free | 200 IM | 50 free | Men's 3M Diving | Women's 1M Diving | 200 freestyle relay
Day 2 finals will begin at 7 p.m. MST, concluding with the 200 free relay.
