TEMPE – Sun Devil softball fell to Texas State 12-2 in its opening game of the Sun Devil Classic on Thursday evening at Farrington Stadium.

Down 3-0 before coming to the plate, ASU (7-5) lacked timely hitting and committed too many miscues in the field to mount a rally. Kelsey Hall delivered three hits for the Sun Devils to raise her average to .500 on the season. Kayla Lissy added a double and triple while Samantha Swan hit her first career home run.

Deborah Jones provided ASU with 3.2 innings of relief, and she held Texas State (9-4) to three runs (two earned) with five strikeouts.

The Sun Devil Classic will continue on Friday with four games. ASU will take the first against Seton Hall at 4 p.m. and then face Ohio State at 6:30 p.m.
