TEMPE – The road stretch continues for No. 24 Sun Devil Gymnastics as the team goes to Utah to compete in a tri-meet at Southern Utah with Utah State as well on Friday night.

How to Follow
The meet begins at 7 p.m. MST and will be available to watch on Southern Utah's live stream. However, there is a subscription fee of $10. There will be live scoring as well, and fans can follow along on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram for updates.

Sun Devil Outlook
No. 24 Arizona State (1-1)
  • Last weekend, Arizona State placed second behind No. 6 Denver, 196.375 to 196.900. The Sun Devils scored their first team score above 196.000 of the season. 
  • The beam event total of 49.325 was the best event total in any event so far this season. Every score that counted was a 9.825 or better.
  • The team set a program record for streaks of 49-plus on vault, extending it to 12 in a row dating back to last season.
  • There were two event winners over the weekend with senior Anaya Smith winning her second in a row on vault (9.925) and sophomore Kimmy Smith winning her first event title of her career on beam (9.925). Both scores are the highest on those events for the squad this season.
  • Lee's 9.925 in the lead-off position on beam is the highest lead-off score by a Gym Devil under head coach Jay Santos
  • Two Gym Devils competed in the all-around at Denver: seniors Emily White and Jada Mangahas. White led the team with a 39.375, scoring 9.900s on beam and floor. For Mangahas, it was her first time competing in the all-around in her career, earning a 39.150. She competed on beam for the first time since 2021, earning a 9.825.
  • This road trip is the second of three weekends in a row on the road. It is the first of two-straight weekends in the state of Utah.

Opponent Outlook
No. 25 Southern Utah (2-4)
  • The Thunderbirds have competed in two quad meets to start the season, finishing in third in both. Their best is a 196.025, which they scored in the home opener.
  • They competed on Monday in the Best of Utah meet, placing third with a 194.000.
  • Arizona State leads Southern Utah in the all-time series 5-1. These two teams last saw each other in the 2015 home opener for the Sun Devils, which resulted in a win for ASU.
Utah State (0-6)
  • Utah State has struggled to start the season with both team scores under 194.000. The team has competed in two quad meets, placing four in both. They most recently competed in the Best of Utah meet on Monday.
  • The Aggies are coached by second-year head coach Kristin White, a former ASU assistant coach from 2021-22. Additionally, their assistant coach Rachel Slocum was a volunteer assistant coach with the Sun Devils from 2021-22. The team also has former Gym Devil Juliette Boyer, a grad transfer.
  • ASU leads the all-time series over USU 13-3. The last meeting was in 2012 in the Aggies' home arena, with the Sun Devils coming away victorious.
