ASU went 23-13 in 2022-23 and reached the NCAA Tournament for the third time in past five chances, and won at least 20 games in four of the past six seasons. It included victories over Michigan and VCU at the Legends Classic, as Coach Hurley won his third preseason tournament at Arizona State, and ASU had massive wins over Creighton, at Arizona, at Oregon, USC and at Colorado to seal the NCAA Tournament berth. The Sun Devils also swept two road Pac-12 series (Oregon, Bays just the third time since joining the conference and the first since the 1980-81 season that Arizona State has swept two road series in the same season.

In Natasha Adair's first year as the head coach for the Sun Devil Women's Basketball program, the team started out 5-0, the best start since 2002-03, but dealt with a series of injuries that led to only having five to six available players for the majority of the year. The season saw the emergence of transfer guard Tyi Skinner who led the scoring offense for the Sun Devils. Skinner averaged 19.3 points per game, the highest average since 1988-89. Skinner opened the season with 16-straight double-digit performances including a career-high 29 points against GCU. On the season, Skinner had 15 20-point games, reaching and tying her career high in two of those performances. Jaddan Simmons continued to flash All-Conference abilities, averaging 12.3 PPG while playing close to 37 minutes a game, the most in the Pac-12. Simmons got it done on both ends of the floor, averaging 2.06 steals a game, good for third-best in the conference. Skinner and Simmons were named honorable mention on the Pac-12's All-Conference Team and All-Defensive team, respectively. Despite a team with a small rotation and not having a lot of depth, the Sun Devils did a fantastic job of taking care of the ball. The Sun Devils averaged just 12.3 turnovers per game, second-best in school history.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
RYAN RAY/FIRST SEASON
PAC-12 FINISHES: MEN (8th) AND WOMEN (11th)
The 2022 Sun Devil cross country season was highlighted by a strong performance by Vincent Mauri. Mauri blew out the competition in both regular-season races and finished on the podium at the Pac-12 Championships. He won the Dave Murray invite with a 37-second lead (23:20.4) and won the UCR Invitational in 23:25.7 to finish 20 seconds ahead of the pack. His 22:59.0 at the conference finals was a PR and earned him second-team All-Pac-12 honors, and he went on to take 11th at NCAA Regionals in 28:42.1, earning All-Region honors. Mauri was then the first Sun Devil to qualify for the NCAA Championships since 2014 when Ryan Herson and program legend Shelby Houlihan both ran. Herson took 117th in the men's race (31:40.7), and Houlihan finished ninth in 20:11.4 to earn All-America honors. Mauri ultimately finished 87th. 3-9 OVERALL/2-7 PAC-12 (T-9)
The 2022 season saw breakout seasons from wide receiver Elijah Badger and tight end Jaylin Conyers, as well as former walk-on quarterback Trenton Bourget and transfer running back X Valladay in a season highlighted by an upset of then No. 21 Washington. Badger burst on to the season after his breakout game against Oklahoma State where he caught six passes for 91 yards and a touchdown. Badger finished the season with 70 catches for 866 yards and seven touchdowns. Conyers broke out this season totaling 38 receptions for 422 yards and five receiving touchdowns. Conyers finished the season with the tenth best season for a tight end and was the only tight end in the FBS to record a three-touchdown game. Throwing to them was Bourget who made a name for himself when he appeared in relief against Washington and led the team to an upset over the Huskies. After taking over as the starter against Colorado, Bourget ended the season throwing for 1,490 yards and 11 touchdowns. Bourget had three games with over 300+ passing yards, the most since the 2019 season. On the ground, Valladay rushed for 1,192 yards, tying him for 10th in rushing yards in a single season in ASU history. Valladay also added to his stellar season by scoring 16 rushing touchdowns, tied for fourth most in a season in ASU history. The offensive production led to the Sun Devils scoring more than 40 points three times this season, the most since 2018. 9-6-3 OVERALL/5-5-1 PAC-12 (T5th/16 points)/NCAA 0-1
The 2022 season – one that included the program's second NCAA appearance in three seasons – came to an end in a 3-0 loss at No. 8 seed Portland in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA match was the last for ASU's outstanding quartet of fifth-year seniors: forwards Nicole Douglas and Olivia Nguyen and midfield players Alexia Delgado and Eva van Deursen. The four players combined for 337 games played and 298 starts while collectively amassing 101 goals and 73 assists. ASU opened up the season 6-0-2 and during that span, Nicole Douglas became the first Sun Devil two-time United Soccer Coaches All-American. After earning third-team recognition in 2021 the first Sun Devil to earn All-America honors since 2002, the greatest forward in Sun Devil Soccer history was one of 11 student-athletes named as a 2022 second-team honoree. She broke Stacey Tullock's 21-year-old program record in career goals, scoring two goals against UAB on Sep. 1st to give her the record. Douglas would go on to score 14 goals, three assists and be named the Pac-12's Forward of the Year as well as earn first-team All-Pac-12 honors. She finished the season eighth in the country in goals per game (0.78) and 13th in points per game (1.72). Van Deursen tied Stacey Tullock for the program record in assists with 25. She finished the season with seven goals and five assists. Alexia Delgado also scored a career high five goals on the season. Delgado and Van Deursen, along with freshman goalie Pauline Nelles, received all-conference honors, with Delgado being named to the second team and Van Derusenand Nelles on the third team. Eight players found the back of the net for the nation's 28th-ranked scoring offense. The Sun Devils featured five new players in their starting lineup, including goalie and Pac-12 All-Freshman selection goalie Pauline Nelles. Douglas became the first Sun Devil to earn.

MEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING
BOB BOWMAN/SEVENTH SEASON (EIGHTH YEAR AT ASU/SEVENTH SEASON)
NAMED HEAD COACH APRIL 24, 2015
NCAA FINISH: 2ND/PAC-12: FIRST
Men's swimming put a stamp on their incredible 2022-23 season by finishing second at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center to secure the best national finish in school history. The Sun Devils had previously never finished better than sixth at the national championships. Their two best showings, both sixth-place efforts, came in 1982 and 2022. They scored just 236 points at last year's championship, a number they cleared after the 10th event this week. Léon Marchand took the 200 breast in NCAA record-setting time of 1:46.91, breaking his own mark of 1:47.67 that he set at the Pac-12 Championships. Marchand won the 200 IM, 200 breast and 400 IM this week in Minneapolis, setting new NCAA records in each event. The Sun Devils stormed to their first Pac-12 Championship in program history in early March, where they won nine races, broke eight school records and never once let go of their clutch of first place. It snapped a streak of five consecutive conference titles won by the Cal Golden Bears. In December, the Sun Devils earned the No. 1 ranking in the country by the CSCAA for the first time in school history. They steamrolled their way through the early months of 2023, taking down No. 12 Stanford, No. 2 Cal and No. 19 Arizona in a two-week span. They carried that momentum into March, where they compiled the greatest postseason stretch in school history. Marchand earned Pac-12 Swimmer of the Year and CSCAA Division I Swimmer of the Year honors for the second consecutive season. Jonny Kulow was named the conference's Freshman of the Year, becoming the fourth Sun Devil of the Bob Bowman era to win the award.

NAMED HEAD COACH APRIL 24, 2015
NCAA FINISH: 27TH/PAC-12: 5TH

Charli Brown, Ieva Maluka, Iza Adame, Emma Gehlert, Katherine Randall, Indigo Armon, Izzy Krantzcke and Ginger McMahon were among the many underclassmen to make an impact this season, a sign that the Sun Devils have the foundation to continue growing in the coming years. The Sun Devils were terrific down the stretch to close out the regular season, in which they won three of their final four dual meets -- (Washington State, No. 11 Cal and Arizona). In the regular season finale for Sun Devil Swim & Dive, in which they recognized 13 seniors for Senior Day, the 123-point margin of victory by the Women is the largest over Arizona since at least 1998. Lindsay Looney became fourth women's swimmer of the Bob Bowman era to win at the Pac-12 Championships, where she won the 200 fly and 500 free. Weeks later, Looney became a First-Team All-American at the NCAA Championships by taking fourth in the 200 fly. She also placed 13th in the 500 free.
