The Sun Devil men's basketball team (6-3) couldn't stop San Diego in the second half as the Torreros fought back from a double-digit first-half deficit and shot .629 from the field in the second half to outlast ASU 89-84.
 
USD outscored ASU 61-48 in the second half and made nine threes in the final 20 minutes.
 
ASU entered the game holding opponents to .392 shooting and to .272 from the three-point stripe, but USD shot 22-of-35 (.629) and 9-of-17 (.529) from three to earn its seventh win.
 
PLAYER NOTES
Jamiya Neal had a career-high 20 points and made five threes, while Brycen Long had 14 points...Jose Perez added 15 points, five rebounds and seven assists...Frankie Collins had 15 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

EARLY LEAD
ASU jumped out to a seven-point lead five minutes in after missing its first three shots as Alonzo Gaffney scored ASU's first seven points and USD made just one of its first eight shots. ASU went on a 10-0 run in less than two minutes after falling behind 3-0. It led 23-11 but USD outscored ASU 10-3 to make it 26-21 at the 7:48 timeout. ASU took at 36-28 into the half on the strength of a 16-2 advantage in fast break points, while USD stayed close with a 10-2 advantage in second-chance points. ASU led by as many as 12 (33-21 at 5:01). Jose Perez had nine points at the break, while Frankie Collins had seven rebounds.
 
ASU – who was 9-22 in its previous 31 non-conference prior to Coach Hurley but is now 11-6 in his tenure – will take on two NCAA Tournament teams at neutral sites starting Saturday with a tilt against TCU (7-1) in Fort Worth at Dickies Arena in the US LBM Coast-to-Coast Challenge followed by a Dec. 20 matchup with Northwestern (6-1) at Footprint Center in Phoenix.
