STANFORD, Calif. – A historic start to the 2023 season came to an end for No. 25 Sun Devil Volleyball as the team fell in straight sets (25-19, 25-18, 25-12) at No. 3 Stanford on Friday night at Maples Pavilion.

Stanford took the early lead to start the match, putting together a couple of points at a time to build a lead. The Cardinal built a seven-point lead after a 7-2 run before timeout, making it 15-8. Levinska's kill ended the run and Cyr followed it up with two-straight kills to make it a 15-11 deficit. The teams traded points until the Cardinal scored two in a row, extending their lead to 22-17 and forcing a timeout from the Sun Devils. A kill from Cyr held off set point, but a kill from Stanford won the set, 25-19.
Set Two: Stanford 25, ASU 18
Three-straight points for Stanford early put the home team up 6-2. With kills from three different Sun Devils, ASU went on a 3-1 run to get within two, down 7-5. However, a 5-1 run from the Cardinal pushed their advantage to 12-6, forcing a timeout from the Devils. The teams traded points for a while, ASU not able to cut into the deficit. Stanford scored four in a row to extend the lead to 23-16 before a kill from Maddie McLaughlin ended the run. Like the first set, Cyr got a kill to hold off set point, but the home team was able to win again, 25-18.
Set Three: Stanford 25, ASU 12
Arizona State struggled to start the third frame, going down 9-2 and calling a timeout. The Sun Devils scored three in a row to make it 9-5, but the Cardinal went on a 6-1 run to open the lead up to 15-6. Claire Jeter had a solo block late in the set, but the damage had been done. Stanford won the set 25-12.
