TUCSON, Ariz. – A first-inning grand slam would be all the scoring Sun Devil Softball would put on the board in a 13-4 loss to Arizona in the first game of the inaugural Pac-12 Tournament at Hillenbrand Stadium.

Hill's grand slam was one of six hits in the game from Arizona State and the only one that went for extra bases. Yannira Acuña reached base three times with a single and twice via a hit by pitch.

Kylee Magee threw a career-high 128 pitches over 4.1 innings with four strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • ASU loaded the bases in the top of the first with a walk to Makenna Harper, hit by pitch to Acuña, and a single from Alexa Milius. With two outs, Hill hit a grand slam to left center to give the Sun Devils a 4-0 lead.
  • After loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of the second, Arizona pulled the game even with four runs.
  • Acuña was hit, and Jordyn VanHook singled to give the Sun Devils runners at second and third with one out in the third, but they were left stranded, and the game remained tied.
  • Kayla Lissy and Acuña both singled in the fourth inning, but no runs came across as the inning ended with Savannah Price being thrown out at the plate.
  • Arizona took the lead with a two-out double in the bottom of the fourth following a Sun Devil throwing error.
  • The Wildcats ended the game with an eight-run fifth inning that was capped by a walk-off grand slam.

NOTABLE
  • Hill's grand slam was her second of the season and third of her career. It was also the third grand slam by the team in 2023.
  • It was the first home run by Hill since the second game of the doubleheader at Utah on April 8.
  • Acuña was hit by a pitch for the third straight game and fourth time in the past five outings. It's the third time this season she has been hit twice in the same game.
  • Acuña reached base for a third time with a single in the fourth inning. It extended her hitting streak to four games and gave her a hit in six of the last seven contests.
  • She finished the season batting .400 to become the first Sun Devil to reach the mark in consecutive seasons since Katelyn Boyd in 2011 & 2012.
  • Acuña is only the fourth Sun Devil with multiple seasons batting .400 or better.
  • Milius extended her hitting streak to six straight games to match her season-long.
  • Gianna Boccagno threw out a potential base stealer in the first inning for her fourth caught stealing this season.
  • Sara Kinch picked up her seventh caught stealing by throwing a runner out at third in the bottom of the fourth.
