TEMPE– No. 18(T) Sun Devil Water Polo (8-12, 0-5) is set to host Senior Day at Mona Plummer against No. 20 San Jose State (12-17, 0-5) in the final game of the regular season on Saturday, April 22 at 1pm MST. Three graduating seniors– Tina Doherty, Itzahiana Baca, and Olivia Traxler– will be honored before the game, which can be viewed on the Arizona State Live Stream.
The Sun Devils come off of a gritty road game against No. 1 USC last weekend, where despite out-scoring the Trojans 8-6 in the second half, ASU ultimately fell 15-11. The 11 goals was the fifth-most goals scored in a road game in program history, and in part due to freshman center Sophie Shorter-Robinson whose four goal effort tied her career high and brought her up to 23 on the season.
ASU freshman attacker Juliette Dhalluin continues to move up in the program's record books and currently sits at 61 goals, 28 assists, and 42 steals. Her 61 goals is third most among freshman in program history and just two behind Rowie Webster's 63, and her 28 assists have her at fourth among freshman all time, just one shy of third behind Ashley Bower. Defensively, Dhalluin leads the team with 11 field blocks, 27 drawn exclusions, and 42 steals, her 42 steals being fourth most in a single season for a freshman, two shy of Bower's 44.
The Spartans on the other hand come off of a 22-1 loss to No. 2 Stanford and bring a six-game losing streak into Tempe, being outscored 76-27 during this time. San Jose State has won game in the last 10 against the Sun Devils, and has been held to single-digit goals in eight of the 10 games.
This game also determines seeding headed into the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament next weekend. Seeds 5-7 are up for grabs between IU, San Jose, and the Sun Devils depending on each school's MPSF record.
