NEW PROVIDENCE, Bahamas - Sun Devil Women's Golf put the finishing touches on an excellent performance at the Nexus Collegiate at Albany Golf Course.
No. 13 Arizona State beat out five Top-25 teams to earn a third-place finish at one of the top events of the Spring. The only two teams to finish ahead of ASU were No. 2 Wake Forest and No. 9 LSU. A big reason for their success was a balanced effort from all five Sun Devils, as each counting golfer finishing tied for 21st or better. The Maroon & Gold solidified their position in third-place by delivering the second-best round of the day (293).
Leading the way for Arizona State was Paula Schulz-Hanssen and Grace Summerhays, who each finished tied for fourth. The finish is even more impressive when you consider it was in a field with 20 of the Top-90 and 13 of the Top-50 golfers in the latest Golfstat rankings. Amanda Linner joined them in the Top-20 (T-18th), while Beth Coulter and Ashley Menne ended up just outside the Top-20 (T-21st). Arizona State was one of two teams to not have a counting golfer finish outside the Top-25, an indication of the team effort.
Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye's team is playing their best golf heading into the most important stretch of the season. The Sun Devils get ready to head to the prestigious Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the end of the month, with live coverage provided by GOLF Channel.
ROUND BREAKDOWN
Due to the shotgun start, the Sun Devils began their round on different holes. Each of the five counting golfers started on the front nine, with success coming early. Three different Sun Devils birdied the third hole with no bogeys being carded. Grace Summerhays started her day with back-to-back pars, setting the tone for her round. Summerhays' birdie on nine moved her to two-under and was one of five on the front nine, as the Sun Devils avoided many mistakes.
The birdies would start to come on the back nine, as they finished with seven as a team, a total that doesn't include the pair of eagles. Calynne Rosholt began her day on the back nine, playing as an individual. She got off to a strong start, recording birdies on her first two holes. The highlights of the back nine came when Ashley Menne came through with an eagle on the par four, 428-yard 13th hole. At nearly the exact same time only one hole over, Amanda Linner was in the process of recording an eagle on the par four, 309-yard 14th hole. Linner was three-under on the back nine, while Calynne Rosholt was also under par during the stretch.

On if any adjustments were made after the first round...
The first day was challenging for everyone because of how windy it was, so I didn't really make a lot of adjustments. I just took the positives from the day and tried to go low the last two rounds. I knew my game felt good that day even though the score didn't show that. I was able to put everything together the last two rounds."
On the confidence she is playing with...
"My finish gives me a ton of confidence going forward. This is one of the best fields we play all year, so to place top 5 feels amazing! I have been playing really solid lately and I think this is a good start to our spring season."
Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye
"We played solid as a team this week at a great golf course. It is awesome to see Paula & Grace have their best collegiate finish. A Top-20 finish for Amanda as well. Beth & Ashley just missed the Top-20 and did a great job supporting the team. We played in very windy conditions every day that changed how the course played. I believe we are getting better every tournament. We have a short break and then will be ready to go to the Darius Rucker in 10 days!"
