Sun Devil Men's Golf tees off the 2023 spring season at the Southwestern Invitational, hosted by Pepperdine from Monday, Jan 30 - Wednesday, Feb. 1. ASU returns as the defending champions – a tournament record nine – and back-to-back winners of the individual title.

The Lake and Oaks Courses (par 72/6,992 yards) is the host. The tournament will feature 72 holes over three rounds.
THE LINEUP
The Sun Devils will send Ryggs Johnston, Preston Summerhays, Gabe Salvanera, Luke Potter and Michael Mjaaseth to the Southwestern Invitational. Josele Ballester will compete in the individual competition for Arizona State. Salvanera has not competed since the fall opener at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate, where he carded one of ASU's two 63's.
RANKINGS
The Sun Devils are ranked fourth in the country by Gofstat. Ryggs Johnston (8) and Preston Summerhays (19) also feature in the top 20 collegiate golfers in the nation per Golfstat. Josele Ballester (41), Michael Mjaaseth (46) and Luke Potter (63) round out the top five ranked individual Sun Devils.
ASU also ended the fall ranked second in the nation by Golfweek. All five Sun Devils feature in the top 50 of Golfweek's indvidual rankings, paced by Preston Summerhays in 12th.

The Sun Devils enter the event as defending team champions after carding a 283-275-276=834/-30. Arizona State shot a tournament-record 30-under, topping USC's 26-under in 2016. Additionally, ASU tied for the second-best round in tournament history with a 13-under 275 on day two before rattling off a 12-under 276 which was seven shots better than anyone on the final round.
David Puig won the individual title, his second straight at the event by carding a 73-70-65=208/-8. He became the fourth two-time winner in the event's history by carding a 7-under 65, one shot off the 18-hole record. Puig became the seventh two-time winner in the history of the event.
LAST TIME OUT
Arizona State concluded its fall season by winning stroke play at the 2022 East Lake Cup and coming second overall in the match play. Luke Potter was the only Sun Devil to win both matches. He also came second in the stroke play to pace ASU's victory.
