TEMPE - The 2022 track season is officially here! Arizona State welcomes the new year in with a small group of pole vaulters and throwers heading to Northern Arizona's Axe 'Em Open Friday. The all day meet gets going for the Sun Devils at 2 p.m. MST with the women's pole vault and shot put.

NCAA tri-champion and The Bowerman finalist Turner Washington will be in action in Flagstaff alongside discus champion, The Bowerman semifinalist, and 2020 Olympian Jorinde van Klinken. Washington broke the NCAA indoor shot record (21.85m/71-8.25) last season before going on to claim the indoor shot crown. Van Klinken took bronze in the event last year in her first season as a Sun Devil and currently sits fourth all-time in the ASU records (17.76m/58-3.75). Also on the trip is '21 indoor All-American and ASU indoor pole vault record holder Hayley Rayburn.
The full Sun Devil squad doesn't get going until Jan. 22 at the New Mexico MLK Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
