FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas - #ThrowsU pushed three more to the NCAA Championships, a facility record fell, Cerah Moren jumped to fourth all-time in the javelin, and two sprinters qualified for the quarterfinals on day two of the NCAA West Prelims in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The Sun Devils now have four athletes qualified for the NCAA Championships and nine quarterfinal qualifiers after two days of action.
Shelby Moran (66.62m/218-7) and Beatrice Llano (66.00m/216-6) both punched their tickets to Eugene after seventh and eighth-place finishes in the hammer throw. NCAA indoor shot put champion Jorinde van Klinken punched her ticket to the outdoor championships and shattered the JOhn McDonnell Field facility record after winning the meet in a outdoor personal best 18.75m/61-6¼. Van Klinken's mark keeps her third all-time in ASU's record books but she's just shy of second place's Jessica Pressley (18.79m/61-7.75). The previous shot put facility record was 18.39m/60-4 by Oklahoma's Tia Brooks in 2013.
On the track, Cortney Jones is moving on in the 100H after taking third in her heat (13.31), and Adriana Tatum is moving on after taking second in her heat of the 200m dash in a personal best 23.06. Tatum jumped up to fifth in program history with her finish.
