Tempe, Ariz.- Following a series sweep of Cal, No. 9 Arizona State (35-7, 16-2 Pac-12) looks to maintain sole possession of first place in the Pac-12 as it welcomes No. 4 UCLA (39-6, 15-3 Pac-12) to Farrington Stadium for the final home series of the season. The first of three matchups will begin on Friday at 5 p.m. on Pac-12 Network.
The following two games will be on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m., and both will also be featured on the Pac-12 Network.
The series with the Bruins will be the first held in Tempe since the 2019 season after the Sun Devils traveled to Los Angeles last year to take on UCLA and the series was canceled in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, ASU looks to pick up its first win over UCLA since the 2018 season.
Freshman Cydney Sanders and senior Yanni Acuña are second and third, respectively, in the conference in batting as Sanders has a batting average of .434 and Acuña's batting average is at .423. Sanders hit her team-leading 17th home run of the season on Sunday, which is also good for third in the conference. Acuña is currently the Pac-12 leader in doubles as she has 14 throughout the season.
Junior Alynah Torres also had a huge role in the 11-run fourth inning in last Saturday's win as she picked up her second triple of her career as she went 2-for-3 and had three RBIs that night. Torres has struck out just seven times this season throughout the 42 games the Sun Devils have played in.
In the circle against the Bears, junior Lindsay Lopez started two of the three games for ASU. In Sunday's 8-0 shutout, she pitched all five innings in the run-rule victory as she threw just 66 pitches and struck out two batters. Her ERA of 1.57 leads the team, and is also fifth in the Pac-12. Marissa Schuld leads the team with 83 strikeouts and has a team-high three saves, which is second in the conference. Mac Morgan has 15 wins on the season, which leads the team and is sixth in the conference.
