Jon Rahm won the U.S. Open.
An amateur tournament was won by a current player (James Leow).

With two years of collegiate experience behind him in 2018-19 and 2019-20, James Leow had to sit out the 2020-21 season due to an injury that required a December surgery. He played great in winning the 106 Southwestern Amateur at Desert Mountain's Outlaw Course in Scottsdale, Ariz. It marked only his second tournament back, after placing 37th at last weekend's Dogwood Invitational.
He started with a 63 in the first round -- including birdies on final four holes -- and stayed in control throughout as he notched a 12-under 272 (63-70-69-70).
Since its founding in 1915, the Southwestern Amateur has developed a stellar reputation as a high-quality competition for the nation's top players. The longest running regional amateur tournament in the western United States, the tournament has been played at a variety of sites in Arizona, California, Texas, Nevada, New Mexico and across the border in Juarez, Mexico, on an annual basis. Past winners of the Southwestern Amateur include past and present PGA Tour stars Craig Stadler (1975), Jay Haas (1976), Mark O'Meara (1980), Corey Pavin (1981), Tom Pernice, Jr. (1982), Sun Devil and 1983 NCAA individual champion Jim Carter (1983, 1984), Ted Purdy (1993), Ryan Palmer (1999) and Nick Watney (2002). Club professional Scott Frisch won the championship three straight years (1987-1989) and noted Tucson amateur Dr. Ed Updegraff captured four titles in 1954-55, 1961 and 1969.
CHUN AN YU -- ANOTHER SOLID KORN FERRY TOUR EFFORT
Sun Devil recent graduate Chun An "Kevin" Yu had a solid tournament at the Wichita Open on the Korn Ferry Tournament, his second straight quality outing in his first two professional appearances. Yu shot 17-under 263 and earned $20,100 by going 64-66-61-72. He is now 32-under in his first eight rounds as a professional after notched a tie for 20th at the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation the previous week with a 15-under 270 (66-66-69-69).
