ASU fell at the buzzer against UC Riverside after JP Moorman II nailed a three-quarter court shot in front of the ASU bench to give the Highlanders a 66-65 victory. In a chaotic finale, ASU had the ball with 14 seconds to go after a good defensive effort, contesting a three-pointer and getting the ball when the rebound went out-of-bounds. Luther Muhammad, who ended the game with 11 points, scored a midrange floater with 1.7 left, but the referees stopped the clock and the game as UC Riverside had no timeouts, but time remained at 1.7 on the possession after taking a look at the game clock. Another pass went out of bounds after ASU tipped it, but the officials nullified the play due with a timing situation in question. Then, the Highlanders inbounded the ball to Moorman, who heaved in a 65-footer right in front of the ASU bench. UC Riverside made 10-of-20 from three in the first half. Kimani Lawrence posted 19 points and 12 rebounds for his second double-double in as many games. Marcus Bagley added 18.

Although they off slow at first, a 17-5 Sun Devil run combined between the last minute of the first half, and the beginning of the second, put ASU comfortably ahead 43-30. After going 2-of-16 in the first half from three, ASU closed the game on 5-of-11 from beyond the arc. The top contributor in that aspect was sophomore transfer DJ Horne, who nailed three three-pointers and posted 11 points. Horne was one of the five Sun Devils in double digits. Kimani Lawrence otched 19 points on 7-11 from the field, and 5-of-5 on free throws, and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. Other top performers were Alonzo Gaffney with 15 (7-of-9 from the floor including a three), Marcus Bagley (12) and Luther Muhammad (10) also posted double digits.
