TEMPE -- The Sun Devil Women's Tennis team's action-packed fall season, which saw five tournaments in five states over the last six weeks, will close this weekend in Tempe, with the Thunderbird Invitational serving as the final tuneup of the autumn schedule.
Ohio State, USC, Auburn, San Diego, Michigan and Cal will all pay a visit to Sheila McInerney's Sun Devils for the three-day tournament at the Whiteman Tennis Center. The tournament will consist of eight teams, which will include the six visiting teams and the final two squads made up via a mixed-bag of players from different universities.
The tournament will begin Friday, with singles play amongst four teams slated for a 9:00 a.m. start. The afternoon will consist of doubles and singles play for the remaining four teams. This schedule will be consistent through the rest of the weekend.
Some top-ranked talents will be well-represented this weekend in Tempe. Set to compete in the invitational this weekend who are listed in the ITA's top-125 preseason singles rankings are, among others, San Diego's Solymar Colling and Elizabeth Goldsmith, Cal's Valentina Ivanov and Julia Rosenqvist, Ohio State's Isabelle Boulais and the Sun Devils' own Giulia Morlet and Sedona Gallagher.
The Sun Devils are nearly two weeks removed from their last tournament, when they turned in a stellar showing at the ITA Southwest Regional Championship in San Diego. They went on to tally three top-16 finishes at the event, as two doubles tandems and Domenika Turkovic in the singles bracket all earned a trip to the round of 16.
