DENVER, Colo. – The road warriors are back at it again as Sun Devil Hockey (1-1-0) travels to its first away series of the 2021-22 season at No. 12 University of Denver this weekend, Oct. 8-9.
Puck drop is slated for 6 p.m. MST on Friday, Oct. 8, and 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9. Fans can watch the live stream on NCHC.tv.
The Sun Devils are familiar foes with both the travel woes after last year's season-long road trip that lasted 74 days and over 15,000 miles and the opponent waiting in Colorado. ASU hosted then-No. 4 Denver in December 2019 when the Sun Devils came away with a win and tie. This series is the first trip to Magness Ice Arena for ASU since the 2016-17 season. Back then, ASU suffered two losses. The two teams will meet four times this season with the Pioneers scheduled to travel to the desert for a series on Dec. 3-4.
ASU is coming off of a split season opener with UMass-Lowell on home turf. Sophomore forward Matthew Kopperud (3G, 2A) and freshmen forward Josh Doan (5A) led the team in point-scoring. The duo's five points apiece ties for second-most in the NCAA. Michigan transfer Jack Becker brought the muscle to the power play, netting two goals on the man-advantage. Last weekend, Miami transfer Ben Kraws started in net. He finished the series with 62 saves, six goals against (three on the power play and one empty net) and a .912 save percentage.

"They're incredibly talented and well structured," head coach Greg Powers said of Denver's team. "We have to take care of them. We can't give them time and space to operate because if you do they're going to make you pay. They're just a really really big team. They're really fun to play."
