TUCSON - Vincent Mauri was on another planet Friday morning at Arizona's Dave Murray Invite. The junior won the men's 8K in 24:17.9, 17 seconds ahead of sophomore teammate Conant Smith (24:34.9). Their podium finishes helped the men ultimately win the day with a total time of 2:04:23, three minutes ahead of New Mexico State and four ahead of Arizona. The women celebrated freshman Hayden Sparks' third-place 21:24.1 finish on the 6K course.

"I think Vinny could be one of the best guys in the country this fall," head coach Patrick Henner said. "Our pack did a really nice job and we're slowly getting it back together. Once we get Dayton Carlson in there so he can run with that lead pack then we're going to be a pretty good team.
"Hayden is doing an outstanding job," Henner added. "This course was a bit slower than the UC RIverside course from two weeks ago and she ran about the exact same time so this was a much better performance for her. Same thing on the women's side - when we get everyone going, when Lena Lebrun can run the whole race and Caitlin Rose can be in the lead pack along with Claire Le Gallo then we're going to be a really great team."
