OKLAHOMA CITY -- Fifth year Maddi Hackbarth added yet another award to her already illustrious trophy case for the 2021 season, earning a place on the NFCA All-America team announced by the organization Wednesday afternoon. Hackbarth joined the Second Team as an At-Large Catcher.
The NFCA Division I All-America softball teams are selected from the pool of players who earned All-Region recognition by Division I head coaches representing the NCAA regions. Hackbarth was tabbed as a first-team honoree in the announcement made two weeks ago.
Hackbarth started all but one of ASU's 49 games in 2021 and led the Pac-12 Conference through the regular season in home runs (20) and RBI (58), marks that rank in the top-10 nationally. With her 20th home run of the season, Hackbarth set a new career-high and tied Arizona State's single season program record for home runs set by Cheyenne Coyle (2013) and Katie Cochran (2009).
Hackbarth recorded career-highs in hits (53), doubles (13), home runs (20), and RBI (58). She finished the season with the best batting average (.384) and slugging percentage (.913) of her career - marks that also led the Sun Devil team. Heading into posteseason, the California native led the team in multiple hit games (13) and multiple RBI games (16).
