TEMPE - The No. 36 Sun Devil women's tennis team (11-7, 4-3 Pac-12) shutout Utah (7-11, 0-8 Pac-12) by a score of 4-0 Friday afternoon at the Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe. ASU dropped just one set in the penultimate home match of the regular season.
The Sun Devils close out the weekend Saturday morning at 11 a.m. against Colorado. Saturday is also senior day for ASU where Ilze Hattingh, Lauryn John-Baptiste, Sammi Hampton, Tereza Kolarova, and Sasa Klanecek will be celebrated on the courts prior to the match at 10:15 a.m.
How it happened
ASU took the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. Tereza Kolarova/Giulia Morlet kicked things off a with a fiery 6-1 victory on three, then the point went to ASU with a 6-2 victory from Sammi Hampton/Marianna Argyrokastriti at two. Ilze Hattingh/Lauryn John-Baptiste were ahead 5-0 on court one when the point was clinched/
Singles was an equally quick affair that opened with Hattingh going 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1, putting the Maroon and Gold up 2-0. Domenika Turkovic then put ASU up 3-0 with a near perfect 6-0, 6-1 win on court six, and the day came to a close with Morlet's 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4
