SAN FRANCISCO – Sun Devil Gymnastics collected five All-Pac-12 awards with Hannah Scharf getting three and Anaya Smith and Cairo Leonard-Baker earning one each, giving the Gym Devils their highest number of all-conference honors since 1994.
Â
The Pac-12 determines all-conference awards based on the National Qualifying Score (NQS) for individuals. The top six earn first team nods and the next two in seventh and eighth get the honorable mention.
Â
The recognition continues to pour in for All-American Scharf, the sophomore from Canada. Scharf is on the All-Pac-12 All-Around First Team and is an honorable mention for floor and vault. These are the first all-conference honors for Scharf. Her 39.506 NQS on the all-around is third in the Pac-12 and she is seventh on floor in the conference with a 9.925 NQS and eighth on vault with an NQS of 9.881. The last time a Gym Devil earned an all-conference award for floor was in 2003 when Maggie Germaine was recognized in that event. She joins Leonard-Baker as the second Sun Devil coached by Jay Santos to earn all-conference honors on multiple events.
Â
Leonard-Baker earned an honorable mention on the uneven bars with a 9.900 NQS. The senior has earned All-Pac-12 honors in all four seasons as a Gym Devil, the first to do so in the program since Ashley Kelly from 2003-06. Leonard-Baker has received conference recognition for bars each of her four seasons, as well as all-around nods in 2018 and 2019.
Â
Smith is on the All-Pac-12 Vault First Team, her first conference recognition of her career. Making the most of the only event she competed this season, she is fourth in the Pac-12 on vault with a 9.913 NQS. This is the first all-conference nod for vault since 2016 when Taylor Allex was honored.
Â
Next up for the Gym Devils is the Salt Lake City NCAA Regional. ASU earned a No. 11 seed and will compete in the first session of the second round on April 2.
