MESA, Ariz. – Sun Devil Women's Golf's Olivia Mehaffey and Ashley Menne had strong showings at the Carlisle Arizona Women's Golf Classic, which took place this past weekend.
The event was hosted at Longbow Golf Club, the same site where Arizona State recently claimed the 2021 Clover Cup and Linn Grant won individual medalist honors. Ashley Menne and Olivia Mehaffey took lessons learned from the collegiate tournament and applied them to the Symetra Tour version.
Competing as two of only three amateurs of the field, Mehaffey and Menne proved they belong in a field full of former and future LPGA standouts. A total of 132 players participated in the event, with both Sun Devils part of the 61 that made the cut.
Four-time NCAA All-American Olivia Mehaffey gave professional golf fans a glimpse of what they can expect for many years to come, as one of the rising stars in the game put on a show. She channeled her inner Phil Mickelson by finding herself in the lead after two rounds at a professional event, after carding one of only three rounds of 64 (-8) for the weekend.
Mehaffey finished in a tie for sixth place, beating out 122 professionals in an incredible performance by an amateur. Her 277 (-11) included three rounds under par, 22 birdies, and an eagle on a course set up for the professional level.
As the second youngest competitor in the field, Ashley Menne made her professional debut in style, making the cut at a Symetra Tour event. The Sun Devil freshman has already flashed the potential and shown why she was a highly-pursued recruit as the four-time Arizona Girls Golfer of the Year.
Menne showed the poised and maturity of a Tour veteran on her way to firing a 67 (-5), moving up 74 spots on the leaderboard on day two and securing a position well above the cut line. She had one more round under par in her, delivering on the final day to slide into a tie for 44th in her first-ever professional appearance.
Symetra Tour standouts and Sun Devils Louise Stahle, Guilia Molinaro, and Roberta Liti returned to the state where they played their collegiate golf. For Liti, it was a reunion with her teammate on the 2017 National Championship team Olivia Mehaffey. Molinaro and Liti recently earned a spot in the Kia Classic field coming up March 25-28, with coverage on Golf Channel. They will be joined by LPGA stars and fellow Sun Devils Anna Nordqvist, Carlota Ciganda, Azahara Munoz, and Linnea Strom at the event in Carlsbad. Louise Stahle will continue on the Symetra Tour, which heads to the IOA Championship in Beaumont, Calif.

The annual event will take place March 26-28 at Papago Golf Club, which was voted best golf course in the state by the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA) of Arizona.
