SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The No. 6 Sun Devil women's water polo team opened MPSF play on Saturday with a 14-7 win over No. 13 San Jose State.

ASU jumped out to an early four-goal lead in the first four minutes of play before allowing a Spartan goal to end the first quarter. After closing the half with a 7-4 lead, the Sun Devils came out firing in the third quarter and put up another four-goal frame to extend the lead to 11-6. The defense allowed just one goal in the final eight minutes of play to secure the team's first conference win of the season. 

Six Sun Devils got on the board, with four players recording multiple goals in the match. Amira Van Buren led the team with a career-high six goals scored. Blaire McDowell, Emma Fraser and Borbala Kekesi each recorded two goals.
