KANEOHE, Hawaii – The No. 3/4 Sun Devil Women's Golf team thrived during a 36-hole first day at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, Tuesday at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course.

Arizona State (-12/564) finds themselves in first place at the conclusion of day one, leading the field by an incredible 15 strokes. Despite being presented with a unique format, the Sun Devils turned-in a pair of 282s (-3), both of which were the best round of the day by any team. Coach Missy Farr-Kaye's team played consistent throughout, giving them a healthy advantage heading into the final round.

The top of the individual leaderboard is littered with Maroon & Gold, with Sun Devils occupying four spots in the Top-10. Headlining that group is freshman standout Linn Grant, who shot a 138 (-6) to jump out to a two-stroke lead after the first two rounds. A pair of Grant's teammates joined her in the top-five, as Olivia Mehaffey and Raquel Olmos played extremely well. Mehaffey (-3/141) and Olmos (-3/141) are part of a three-way tie for third, sitting one stroke back of second place. By earning a tie for eighth, Alessandra Fanali (+1/145) made it four Sun Devils in the Top-10.

The Sun Devils resume the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational tomorrow at 11:05 am MST (8:05 am Hawaii time), playing the traditional 18 holes to finish up the tournament. Stay tuned to the Sun Devil Women's Golf Twitter and Instagram account (@SunDevilWLax) for live coverage of the third round.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Linn Grant showed all day why she came into the tournament ranked in the Golfstat Top-10, putting on a bogey-free clinic. She had brilliant stretches in both the first and second round, including finishing eight-under over her last 32 holes of golf. Grant put together a bogey-free second round and was the only golfer to produce two rounds in the 60's, helping her leap into first place at the end of day one. She handled any hole setup thrown at her, finishing under par on par three, four, and five opportunities. Her eight birdies are tied for the second-most of any individual at the tournament.

Surprised that Linn Grant is alone at the top of the leaderboard after Day 1? at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational?

Olivia Mehaffey has herself in contention as the final round approaches, as she sits just three strokes out of the lead. She started the day strong, carding a 69 (-3) thanks to a four-under stretch over her final 11 holes of the first round. Mehaffey also finished the second round strong, playing bogey-free golf (-2) over the last 11 holes of the day. The senior shot four-under (3.80 avg) on par four opportunities, a big reason why she is currently tied for third. Mehaffey has seven birdies, tied for the third most of anyone in the field.

Raquel Olmos joins Mehaffey in a tie for third, as the junior enjoyed a hot start to the day. She finished four under in the first round, playing bogey-less and mistake-free golf. The opening 68 posted by Olmos was the second-lowest round of the day. Olmos has played the par three opportunities well, with a two-under score tying her for the second-best mark at the tournament.

Alessandra Fanali climbed up the leaderboard thanks to an excellent second round, earning a tie for eighth by the end of the day. She improved her score by eight strokes from the first to the second round, thanks in large part to her eagle on the third hole. It was the only eagle of the day, pushing her to four under over her final 10 holes. Fanali moved up 31 spots on the leaderboard to become the third Sun Devil in the Top-10.

Amanda Linner enjoyed arguably the most successful stretch of golf in her young collegiate career in today's second round. Three consecutive birdies on holes 13-15 helped her trim six strokes off her total from the first to second round, moving up 22 spots on the leaderboard in the process.
