FEDERAL WAY, WASH. – No. 17 Sun Devil women's swimming and diving as well as men's diving head off to Washington this week for the 2020 Pac-12 Swimming and Diving Championships. ASU looks to make a splash at the event including several looking to defend their 2019 titles.
The Championships follow two weeks after their last competition in which both the Sun Devil men and women easily defeated Arizona at home in Tempe. Many Sun Devils put up some of the fastest times of their career in that meet with freshman Lindsay Looney breaking the 11-year school record in the 200 butterfly. Her time of 1:55.39 in the event is also currently the 20th fastest time in all of Division I swimming this year.
Ben Olszewski also shined in that meet for ASU, touching the wall at 8:57.80 in the 1000 free, less than two-tenths of a second shy of breaking the ASU record set in 1984. The senior's time is also the 14th fastest time in all of Division I swimming this year.
Silja Kansakoski and Youssef Selim head to Federal Way looking to defend their 2019 Pac-12 titles with Kansakoski in the 100 breast and Selim in the one-meter springboard and platform events.
Kansakoski's win in the 100 breast is the second in her previous three seasons, as she was able to take the crown in the event in 2017. She reclaimed the crown in 2019 and looks to defend it this time around.
Meanwhile on the diving board, Youssef Selim looks to assert his dominance again in 2020. Selim took second place in the one-meter during his freshman campaign, but came back with a vengeance during his sophomore year to take first place in that event. He one-up'd that performance in 2019, defending his one-meter title while also adding a platform title to his resume.
The 2020 Pac-12 Women's Swimming and Diving and Men's Diving Championships kick off this Wednesday and will run through Saturday. Fans can keep up with the action in Federal Way by following @ASUSwimDive on Twitter.
